Time Team: Dig Two - Secrets of Wytch Farm - Dorset

We've chosen a spectacular location for a very special dig. It's Time Team's 30th birthday and we are celebrating in style... Time Team heads to Wytch Farm, in the shadow of Corfe Castle, Dorset, where Derek and Lawrence discovered two Iron Age burials back in 2021. They've called in the full team to investigate. Was this a cemetery, and how long have people been living here? Where were they living, and, above all, what were their livelihoods? Will we uncover the secrets of Wytch Farm? We have just three days to find out!

How do we want to talk about Fallout?

Is there enough interest to do episode by episode discussions or should we binge the discussion ala Amazon Prime?

Time Team: Dig One - Modbury Community Dig - Devon

For our latest three-day dig, Time Team joins forces with the people of Modbury to uncover their dramatic history. We hunt for clues throughout the town, in attics in living rooms, and under brand new lawns. We're looking for for evidence of Civil Wars that raged through the town in the 17th century. Time Team are joined by Jim Stetson, whose family sat at the heart of the community before they left for America to find their fortune making hats. But will we piece together the dramatic ups and downs of Modbury and its fascinating history? We have just three days to do it!

A Tasty Long Con

As the year turns to fall, (it'll be a chilly 85°F for me tomorrow) it's time to think about preserving a larder for the long cold winter. And while you can think about your pickles, your preserves and canned goods for days, let's look instead at the French technique of "confit".

Chicken And Rice - Oh So Nice

Rice is one of the world's most important crops. Chicken is one of the world's most consumed meats. (In the US to the tune of 100 pounds per person per year). Naturally, there's an large variety of combinations of the two across the world, so let's try a few! Again, as with all things culinary, this is woefully incomplete, short sighted and missing a bunch of other combinations (plus some of these combinations are seen with different meats!

Are You Ready For Some Football?

Today marks the beginning of the 2023 NFL Season with football every Sunday through to next year. As with all NFL Seasons, there's multi-year chaos, drama and changes - and that's off field. This years biggest change has been in the ownership of the Washington Commanders with the sale of the team by the reviled Dan Snyder to a team lead by private equity investor Josh Harris who already owns or holds stake in the Philadelphia 76ers, the New Jersey Devils and EFL's Crystal Palace F.C. (Warning: Yes, that name is used in a bunch of older news articles)

Salad Solidarity

Across the course of the modern foodscape, there have been countless labor strikes at all levels of the food industry particularly with the hard working men and women harvesting crops from the fields. Big California examples include the Delano Grape Picker Strike and the largest farm worker strike in US history - The Salad Bowl Strike. In the spirit of Salad for Lettuce Boycotters, how about some salads without lettuce. We'll come back to the world of "salads" later when we look at things like Snicker Salad Again, as with all things culinarily inclined, this list is short sighted, full of gaps, holes, glaring errors and misconceptions, etc. Feel free to toss your ideas to cover the bare spots! (And yes, cabbage and spinach are lettuce adjacent, but....)

The Incredible Edible Egg, the symbol of life. There's been a long debate about the health benefits and negative effects of the humble egg, but for many, the scrambled egg is the go to breakfast choice. The real question is which scrambled egg? Milk? Cream? Nothing? Salt? No Salt? Again, as with all things culinarily inclined, this list is short sighted, full of gaps, holes, glaring errors and misconceptions, etc. Feel free to scramble over any and all bare spots!

It's Tasty Being Green

While hunger may be the best sauce in the world, most prefer something with a bit more taste. And since it's summer and beautiful herbs abound, let's look at many ways of bringing a "green" zip to the plate. (Plus it's Hatch Chile season!) As with all things culinary, this will be woefully incomplete, short sighted, lacking the complete picture and not the way your nana made it and that's great - more green sauces!

Remember - Good Satire Punches Up Like The Bubbles in Beer

In a time of a worrisome craft beer market, a worse niche beer publication market and the recent accusations of sexual assault against the CEO of Ohio's Actual Brewing, Bill Metzger, the longtime owner and publisher of the Buffalo based Brewing News chain of monthly brewing newspapers wrote an article on Scottish Cask Ale for the Great Lake's Brewing News (not to be confused with Great Lakes Brewing and their flagship Edmund Fitzgerald Porter ). After "promotion" from Worst Beer Blog (dedicated to calling out asinine and crappy behavior in the brewing world), the article was not well received to say the least even by the Scottish (with many advertisers/breweries pulling ads and at least one employee resigning in protest) . With cries of satire being rejected after an "apology" (and some questionable history being dug up), papers in the chain are going independent and Metzger is divesting himself of the remaining properties. (And the annual IPA Competition is cancelled because of breweries pulling entries) Is this another step for a maturing industry to move away from it's troubling past, even for a field that's been said to be 99% asshole free? (and don't look now - unionization, too!)
