Avoid import tax.

I want to send a friend a small gift that I made. Like a mosaic mirror. Value $200.00. He is in Italy. I am in USA. Is there a way for me to pay the import tax, instead of saddling him with the tax charge?.Or maybe I could send him a Money order or personal check to cover the charge. Thanks.

Got 31 seconds to kill?

This opera has everything. Murder, intrigue, eunuchs, David Hockney designed sets, forced perspective, And who doesn't love Nessun Dorma? I've never wanted to be in Los Angeles more than right now. Puccini's "Turindot" playing as we speak..

Witty song from "Fiorello" the Broadway musical.

The great Howard DaSilva performs the showstopping number "Little Tin Box" Fiorello! is a musical about New York City mayor Fiorello La Guardia, a reform Republican, which debuted on Broadway in 1959, and tells the story of how La Guardia took on the Tammany Hall political machine. The book is by Jerome Weidman and George Abbott, drawn substantially from the 1955 volume Life with Fiorello by Ernest Cuneo, with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and music by Jerry Bock.

In 2007, a film lab accidentally returned a rough cut of 1972 Maysles footage of The Beales to Peter using an old label on a film cannister. It was part of the Maysles Films archives digitization project and was supposed to be returned to Maysles directly, but had been paid for by Peter and Lee in 1972 and had Peter's still-current address on it.

Ma,Ma,Ma...Ma,Ma...Look what I can do!

You might be more likely to send a text or email these days, however, some people still use letters to send fan mail. While plenty of celebrities receive messages of adoration, it turns out that you can also send fan mail to the “Mona Lisa.” Thanks to a special mailing address as well as a mailslot in the Louvre that’s located in the area of the famous artwork that was created by Leonardo da Vinci in 1503, those who feel inclined can write a message to the beloved masterpiece. What could they possibly say in their notes? Artnet explains:

When artificial intelligence goes wrong

Well isn't this a fine kettle of fish. Is the orchestra the audience? What's in her lap?lap? Is it the latest Birkin bag, or a camera case...Queensland Orchestra said they wanted to use artificial intelligence to be "innovative".

Who wants to be a lithographer?

Using only aluminum foil, vinegar and a brayer, oh, and a printing press you too can become a lithographer. This is quite fun. I've actually done this. The kids will enjoy this too. Make your own greeting cards, etc.

"When Pigs Fly". An Off Off Broadway musical review. Hilarity ensues.

The concept of the revue is that "Howard" stages a musical. As he struggles to do so, dealing with the large egos of performers or scenery gone wrong, he hears the words of his high school counselor, "Miss Roundhole". She sarcastically said, "When pigs fly!" in response to his ambitions. The characters in the revue (all played by men) appear in sketches: a song to unlikely loves ("Torch Song #1"); four life-sized queens from a deck of playing cards ("You've Got to Stay in the Game"); and dancers make a case for being yourself ("Light in the Loafers"). "The Melody Barn" is a take-off on classic summer stock themes; "Laughing Matters," is a defense of fun in sad times.

Beautiful faces. beautiful clothes, beautiful soundtrack

When bewildered by the current state of affairs in the world, I turn to things like this to brighten my day. I love beautiful tailoring and design in clothing. But the reason for my post is that a friend of mine does the soundtrack for MaxMara couture runway shows, We go back a fair bit. We both worked an artsy restaurant in Soho NYC in the late 70's. Dishwashers. $4.00 an hour cash, and one meal. This is when Soho was still affordable.

Evolution of La Cage Aux Folles

Terrific explaination of the evolution of the hit musical La Cage Aux Folles. Beginning with a modest British play titled "Staircase" in the early 60's to a movie of the same title starring Richard Burton and Rex Harrison a few years later. They on to becoming a hit musical decades later. Along the way we discuss Hollywood contracts, copyright laws, President Regan, Harvey Fierstein, Nathan Lane, Canadian laws regarding drag queens removing their wigs, and so much more....its a fun listen to.

A brilliant new adaptation of the classic musical, "Oklahoma" Ado Annie sings "I'm Just a Girl Who Can't Say No". This is a clip from the Olivier awards show in London. So different from the musical I saw in the 60's. Celeste Holm portrayed Ado in the original show on Broadway.

Band saw to cut plexiglass

I'm interested in cutting 1/4 inch acrylic sheet as cleanly and quickly as possible. A jewelers saw would take too long. This would be for bangle style bracelets...so pretty tight radius and curves. I don't mind a little sanding to clean up rough edges.

Where does home go after death of owner?

I am a caretaker for my brother who has ALS. We are both in our 70's. He owns a suburban home with about half the mortgage paid off. I have lived in the house, on a seperate level for 10 years as his caretaker. I share the kitchen in the house. He promised the house to me at the beginning of his home care with me. About 4 years ago he had a will written up stating such, plus some monies he has. It hasn't been witnessed and signed as of yet.

Prebake apples for tart?

I'm going to make an apple tart using puff pastry. The store bought kind. It's a simple tart with a puff pastry base and sliced apples in a single (overlapping) layer. No top pastry. And an apricot jelly glaze. My concern is the pastry will be baked before the apples are cooked through. I don't want al dente slices. Would it help to saute the sliced apples in a bit of butter and then layer them in the pastry? Or am I needlessly concerned?

Make a tart or traditional cherry pie?

I have a 24 [oz. jar of Morello cherries. It says packed in syrup, but I think it's cherry juice. Which is fine. I just need to thicken it up with some starch if I want to use it in a pie or tart. I understand that you can also use tapioca, which I have never used. One question is does tapioca show up in the finished filling as white specks? Also does it pop when you bite into it...like those bubble tea things. If so, I don't think that would be appealing to me. The last part of my questions involved weather or not to make a tart instead of a pie. I have never made a tart, but I bought a new tart pan and am anxious to use it. It has a removable bottom and the bottom has hundreds of tiny holes in it. I

Should I be worried about crossing the Canadian border?

About 17 years ago I was having severe toothaches, and just wanted the pain to go away. Aspirin did nothing. I searched the internet and found a source for aspirin with codeine. I ordered 36 tablets. Two weeks later I received a letter from the border people (govt) saying they have confiscated my pills and if I do it again I will be subject to a fine and or jail time.
