betweenthebars: "and while it could be argued that Pastabagel's contribution is intended as satire"

It would be difficult, in my view, to argue anything else.

It's Inktober, let's make art and stuff!
It's good to draw. It's good to draw. It's good to draw.

I am participating in #Inktober2018 and enjoying it immensely, not only requiring myself to keep up, but also seeing all the lovely things being submitted.

Best thing you've read and/or heard lately (#2)
I just finished Richard Powers' "The Overstory" and have spent the past week looking at trees (as in, "have you ever really looked at a tree?"). I also enjoyed John Carreyrou's Bad Blood about the demise of Theranos, and I have more than once here recommended Lisa Halliday's Asymmetry, particularly affecting in the wake of Philip Roth's death.

MetaHelpfulNewPostsAdvice
It’s like a potluck party, or a byob event. Bring what you like. What you do best. What you can afford. Don’t worry about pleasing the crowd. Beans are good. Also wine. All of us could use our horizons expanded. Or another helping of really good home cooking. This metaphor is creaking under its own weight but I think the point is clear.

The etiquette of thread poaching?
A really long time ago I mentioned something similar about a site called "Splice Today" which seemed to be poaching content hand over fist from MetaFilter. I'd like to mention today that, to their credit, they stopped that shit pretty much right away and nowadays aren't the world's worst aggregator for news & opinion. I didn't follow this evolution at all so I have no idea whether the place is under new ownership, or just grew out of it.

FPP Etiquette: acronyms, abbreviations, and jargon
I'll drop in to complain about this FPP about the painter Gertrude Abercrombie, which does not mention the subject's surname anywhere in the FPP itself, just "Queen Gertrude," and adds confusion by mentioning another Gertrude (Stein), a complaint more succinctly made by maryr in the thread.

Correcting inaccurate posts
My point here is that a vote for quidnunc kid is a vote for do-overs, because no-one is perfect (not on their first attempt, anyway).

Which is why I'm voting #2 quidnunc kid.

Note: Everyone needs a laugh.
So there was this man who asked his best friend for help.

He said, "Friend, I'm having an affair with the butcher's wife, so could you do me a favor? This afternoon, could you go to the butcher's and, as he's closing up, engage him in a deep conversation and keep him talking to you for and hour while I slip 'round to his house for a quick roll with his wife?"

The friend agreed, said he would be happy to help and would do his best.… [more]

Reacting to threads and comments
cortex: "To the extent that people post and reload to see how many people liked their snarky comments, they are not generating revenue in the process but rather driving up server costs."

Damn. Now I can no longer use that as my excuse. ("No, I was just doing my part to increase MeFi's pageviews, not desperately reloading to see my favorites count.")
