Too many carrots

For the last three months I've been receiving 1-2 kilos of carrots in my vegetable box. This week I've received 3kg of carrots, both red and purple. I'm out of ideas for carrot-based meals for two. Suggestions? Our preferences and what we're tried are below the fold.

Recipes with high return on investment

I'm looking for dishes where the taste, appearance or "wow factor" is much more than the effort, time or money put into the dish. For the purposes of this question, there are no other restrictions.

How to use cooked red cabbage?

I am a single person who cooks rarely. Despite that, last year I bought a 580 gram jar of Danish red cabbage. It contains cabbage, sugar, vinegar, plus apple and currant juice. The food expires (or goes past its "best by" date) in a few months. Why did I buy this? No idea. But red cabbage is nutritious. So please suggest ways I can eat this, especially if they do not involve complicated recipes or long cooking times. Thanks, hive mind!

Just one?!

What’s something that people would intuitively think there’s a lot of, or at least a few of, but really, there’s only one? E.g., Beethoven operas; time zones in China; US presidents who never married (thanks, Mchelly!).

How to make baguette

Books to help child navigate frenemy relationships

My daughter is 6 and is having her first drama-filled friendships. One of them is a friend who seems to really love her, but sometimes is also quite mean to her. I am looking for books suited to this age group that might help her learn some skills to deal with this.

What's the latest in cheap cell service?

What are we using for cheap cell service these days? I specifically need a service that will TELL me via text when I have exceeded my data limit and will be charged extra. I just discovered that I have been accidentally leaving my phone with wifi turned off and racking up insane bills with Spectrum and had no idea because they don't text me. So upset.

Easy Lunch Ideas for Nut-Free Preschool?

My 3 year old is about to start preschool at a nut-free school. What are some ideas for lunch that are PB&J-level easy and toddler-friendly? Searching for this online yields a lot of parenting blogs that think I'm going to bake scones or make homemade beef bourgignon every night.

'Cause t'es gone nulle part avec ta 9 piece luggage set (chuis jet set)

Chiac is a French/English dialect from the Canadian province of New Brunswick, fluidly mixing English loaner words into principally French speech. Listening to chiac as song lyrics can be a delightful -- or disorienting -- experience for people, especially those with passing knowledge but not fluency in French. There are a lot of opportunities to find out, as there's no shortage of bands and musicians who record in chiac, from rap like Radio Radio's "Cliché Hot" to Lisa LeBlanc's "Gossip" to the bonkers brilliance of P'tit Belliveau's "Income Tax".

Buying Many of Only One Thing

What do you LOVE in your kitchen and/or bathroom?

I'm in the early planning stages for some major renovations to my kitchen and multiple bathrooms in my house. I'm looking for some inspiration, especially for clever things I may not think of on my own. I'd love to know what things delight you in your own kitchen/bathroom. Do you have an amazing cabinet organizer, color combination, countertop material, sink feature, type of tile, showerhead, faucet... anything that you're glad you have or think is awesome? Please share. Photos and specific product recommendations more than welcome!

The affirmative case for staying in the U.S.

I want stories about people who are choosing to stay in the U.S., especially if they could leave and especially if they are parents. I have my own numerous reasons I am staying, but in my social group, there is so much casual conversation about leaving and its framed in an awful way. I would love stories others have shared about why they are choosing to stay and how they are grounding their lives here.

This is the best __________ I know of....

What are your favorite mundane items? I want to own the best box cutter, oven mitts, key ring, wallet, dog collar and lead, notebook, pen, reusable shopping bag, bed sheets, sponge, dish washing brush, lint remover, and _______ on the planet. What's something you own that's amazing and you think everyone should own? Price is no object — what's a thing you bought and never want (or need) to switch to another?

Best way to do a language crash course

Do any language courses focus on quickly *returning you* to decent language skills? I took years of French in high school and would love to prepare for a French fluency exam as quickly as possible. I need to review everything but I don't need to spend hours on "bonjour, ça va?" if that makes sense. Any recommendations would be welcome!

All of the Clothes and the Shoes

Due to a number of decades of living plus a year of weight loss, I have lots of clothes and shoes I no longer want to keep. For the sort of average-condition or more basic items I have started a box for Goodwill, but I have probably a dozen pairs of nice jeans and pants (some never worn omg*), and a lot of size 11 women's leather shoes worn only a few times or once, or never, because I have had some terrible shopping habits. I would like to maybe sell these.

Metatalktail Hour: Hot-Weather Recipes

Good Saturday evening, MetaFilter! I'm a little slow to post this week because MY AIR CONDITIONING DIED so there was all the drama of working over a hot computer in 90 degree heat while waiting for the repair guy. ANYWAY, not that my house is cooling back off, I desperately want to know your favorite hot-weather recipes -- things that taste good in the heat, or things that you don't need to turn on the stove for, or things that just taste like summer. Go!

Body wash that doesn't smell like food or flowers?

Just what it says on the tin. I am tired of coconut vanilla sweetpea hydrangea mint or whatever and I like clean, fresh scents that are more reminiscent of fresh laundry than anything I'd eat or decorate with.

Recipe ideas for people who don't enjoy cooking

About 70% of the time, I do not enjoy cooking. The prep, the process, the cleaning up (oh God, the cleaning up). I feel like I have exhausted my repertoire of minimal-prep / minimal-cleanup weekday evening meals. Can you help me come up with some new ones? And it would be great if they were actually tasty and heavy on the vegetables as I am trying to get more of those into my diet. Bonus points for food that I can make ahead in bulk and take to work for a few days.
