About
What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
Charles V (1500-1558)was Holy Roman Emperor from 1519-58. He is sometimes viewed as a medieval emperor stuck in renaissance times. He ruled over the largest empire that the western world had seen since Charlemagne. He spoke many languages: French to his women, Italian to his painters, German to his horses and Spanish to God. Something about his struggle to maintain a united Christendom against the rising tides of nation-states, Protestantism and Machiavellianism strikes a cord with me; he is often viewed as a medieval ruler in a renaissance time. Like me, he longed for a simpler, more civilized age.
