About

What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

My wife, turtlegirl, and I have a small farm in rural Vermont. We used to raise rare breed Navajo-Churro sheep in order to help save the rare breed, but now keep a small spinner's flock made up of one Navajo-Churro, one Shetland, 2 Finn sheep, and 2 Finn-Shetland crosses. We used to have 2 wonderful llamas named Guinness and Kuzco, both of whom passed in 2020 after 12 years on the farm. We miss them.

Together we are Gage Hill Crafts and we explore the local Vermont food scene, gardening, home brewing, and shepherding. We share what we have learned, and introduce folks to some of the amazing Vermonters who inspire us. We also have a YouTube channel.

Personally, I am a home-brewer, and helped found two home-brewing clubs including the Homebrewer Outreach & Preservation Society in central Vermont.

From 2013-2015 I did a few music radio shows on the local low power station I helped found, and for which I designed the entire system -- at least as far as the computers, the Internet stream and the recording and rebroadcasting of programs are concerned. I took a sabbatical from the station in August 2015 in order to help support my wife and my's new venture, the first in the country all natural sheep and goat skin tannery. She sold the business in 2020 to a person who is doing a great job continuing the craft.

Until recently I worked at a local fiber optic ISP, which was founded by neighbors who tired of waiting for the big telecoms to grace us with their presence.
