About
What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
In '91 or so my ex (then current) bought a computer with a smokin' 2400 baud modem. We wanted to check out some local BBSes, so I went to the computer lab in the building where I worked at a university and asked one of the lab guys I knew there if he had any phone numbers for some, and he said, "Yeah, but what you REALLY ought to do is get on the Internet!" First time I'd ever heard of it. He went on to tell me about MUDs and gophering and how to go to the campus computer center to sign up for a dial-in account. We ended up getting very much into the whole MUD thing for a couple o' years there, and things just sorta snowballed from there.
