About

What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

My nickname was coined by one of my many children when he was very young and pointed at a statuette of a fat buddha and announced to the world,"there's daddy". It has nothing to with the philosophy, although I do tend to find myself broadly in sympathy with it.
I have 7 main interests in life:
My family
Birmingham City F.C cooking
drinking
literature
Surfing the net
thinking about holidays

I first came across metafilter when the Guardian mentioned it in its post September 11 coverage. It is now the first place I visit every day. It is brilliant. Very pleased to finally be allowed in!
I am barely literate when it comes to computers. I am learning as I go along with the help and patience of some incredible individuals I have met on football message boards.
My excuse for justifying the expense of a p.c when neither myself nor my wife has the first idea how to use one was that it would benefit the nippers. The reality was that I was desperate for news on Birmingham City and being an exile it is not readily available. 2 years later I realise the news I thought I was missing is all cobblers anyway.
Hasn't stopped the internet becoming an obsession though.
