What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
I'm a guy from the US who now calls Europe home. I also have a heckuva time coming up with nicknames for sites like MetaFilter.
It's not hyperbole to say that MetaFilter has played a significant role in my life since I signed up in 2000. I can't give my fellow Mefites all the credit, but you've certainly helped me evolve in ways that I consider positive. Amazing, really. I had no idea what I was in for when I signed up. It's been a fun ride. I'm very appreciative of this community's thoughtfulness.
Update 2018-06-18: I recently took a trip down Mefi Memory Lane, reading some of my earliest comments here, and, frankly, I was appalled at a number of them. To anyone I may have offended back in the day, please accept my sincerest apologies. I'm not the person I was when I first arrived here. What a difference 20 years can make!
