About

What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

Orthicon halo is the black shadow around bright objects when filmed with Orthicon video cameras, which were used back in the Fifties and the Sixties.

You can see it pretty well in this clip of Martha and the Vandellas (inexplicably) hanging out at the Ford factory and riding along on the Mustang assembly line singing "Nowhere to Run." This whole situation is obviously pretty dangerous and pre-OSHA, but keep an eye on the overhead lights as the Vandellas ride along: you'll see the trademark Orthicon halo.

This is a brand new account, but I've been reading Mefi forever. I was curious how long, so I grepped through my chat logs to try to figure out when I started; turns out I've been since at /least/ early 2001 (that's when the logs start).

I think I originally got here via some cross-pollination from memepool, but I can't say for sure.

2013/8/9: I got sidebarred back in June 2013. Cool.
