Jasper Ankle is the name of the (anti) hero in Edward Gorey's classic book "The Blue Aspic." He obsessively worships an Italian opera singer named Ortenzia Caviglia.
While he pores over his clippings and listens to recordings he loses his job and his home, and walks the streets in snowstorms "clutching his warping records to his chest."
He breaks out of an insane asylum, and finally meets his destiny by stabbing Madam Caviglia. He then shouts out "Jai trouve Hortense" and stabs himself.
