About
What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
Greetings.
My name is Madhu "MadMan" Menon.
I'm a chef, restaurant consultant, and food writer who lives in Bangalore.
Previously, I was the chef and owner of Shiok Far-eastern Cuisine, an Asian food restaurant and cocktail lounge in Bangalore, India. It served food from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. Ran the place for more than 6 years.
And before that, I used to work in the big bad world of web development as a User Experience specialist. My last full-time corporate job was as the UX Head at a web solutions company, and I can still be found fixing up web sites and ranting about design.
I like photographing food. Check out my food photo gallery at http://flickr.com/photos/themadman
I also have a chef's blog and a personal blog . The chef's blog is updated abouttwice a week whenever I can move my lazy arse with tips, tricks, articles, and recipes.
About my nickname
It all started when George W Bush invaded Iraq...
Wait, that's not the right story. Let's try again.
It all started when I was a University student in Australia. The bloody Aussies couldn't pronounce my Indian name properly and pronounced it "mud-oo". This was annoying, to put it mildly. I then noticed that most of the blokes there had a nickname. Thinking that a nickname was better than an Indian name pronounced wrongly, I thought I'd shorten it to something my dad used once in a while - "Mad". So "Mad" I became. This produced "MadMan" as a version, and when I encountered that wonderful thing known as the Internet, I quickly adopted it as my online handle.
Now wasn't that exciting? :)
