What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

"Looks like metafilter is allowing new user sign ups, 20 people per day," said my friend Mez, who got us all hooked on metafilter some number of months and years ago.

I would have to wait till the next day to apply.

I logged on to metafilter, hit refresh 3 times, and was greeted with an offer to join metafilter.

I rushed to click the join now link, rushed to type in all my info, and rushed to click that little button that would give me my own metafilter account.

Satisfied, I tried to login.

"Chungking Express"

"No such user."

"What?" I thought, "this cannot be."

A few clicks on the back button in my browser and I saw the error of my ways.
