About

What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

I'm a joint US/UK citizen. I grew up in the US, but I've spent most of my adult life in London. Yankee + fog = me.

Other stuff about me: I'm a writer. I used to write for an HBO TV show, and I've contributed to The Onion. I've also had stuff in The New Yorker and McSweeney's. Nowadays, I write mostly (but not entirely) for kids.

My books include:

• What Rosa Brought, a picture book about my mother's experiences in Nazi-occupied Vienna.
Be Happier Now, a collection of 100 simple tips to make you happier.
Live Smarter Now, a collection of 100 simple tips to make you smarter.
• Princess Unlimited, a picture book about an independent-minded princess who saves her kingdom from ruin.
• A non-fiction guide to memory techniques, call How To Remember Everything. It's aimed at kids but I think the techniques I discuss will be useful to anybody.
• A Middle Grade novel. In the US, it's called Hyacinth And The Secrets Beneath. In the UK, it's called The City of Secret Rivers.
Lyric McKerrigan, Secret Librarian, a picture book about a super-hero librarian who saves the world.
•  The Government Manual For New Superheroes, a helpful guidebook to designing a costume, finding an arch-enemy, and ensuring that your secret crimefighting lair meets local zoning regulations.
The Government Manual for New Wizards, a guide to choosing a familiar, keeping your broom in good working order, and disposing of cursed objects in the volcanic fires whence they were forged. (IMPORTANT: DO NOT FLUSH CURSED OBJECTS DOWN THE TOILET.)
The Government Manual for New Pirates, a guide to rum, wenches, rum, looting, rum, and, also, rum.
• A parody of pregnancy and parenting books, called How Not To Kill Your Baby.
