What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

I've been going by "killdevil" since 1989, when I was twelve. If you too were a nerdy adolescent hanging on IRC in the early 90s, debating the finer points of PBX hacking while soldering alligator clips to your modem, perhaps you remember me: the name's a carryover from my very first shell account. Sheer force of habit makes it the one I'm still most likely to key in when prompted for a username.

It's "killdevil" as in Killdevil Hills, North Carolina, where the Wright Brothers took their first flights in the Wright Flyer. I'd guess I picked it because I am fond of airplanes.
