About

What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

I'm six and one half feet tall.

I began playing the video game Quake sometime in 1997 or so, and the name "sixfoot6" seemed like a pretty hip way to combine letters and numbers that related to myself, suggested my imposing size, etc..

In 1999 I registered www.sixfoot6.com, which I've had for over three years. The nice thing about the handle is that it's a unique combination of letters and numbers, so I can use it whenever I register for anything, anywhere. Google sixfoot6, and you find me.

I wonder if the new Department of Homeland Security uses Google?

Anyway, I'm a friend of mathowie, and I don't use Metafilter as much as I once did, but I think it's a great place. I first stumbled on to the internet in early 1994, through the nightmare that was Prodigy for DOS. On the music BBS I left messages about music and all sorts of junk, at 2400 baud. I was 15, but I made some real connections. I knew even then that the internet is what you make it. Punk Rock.
