About
What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
My nickname? Well, this is the first time I haven't use a pseud of some kind on a community site.
I've been on-line since people knew what it meant to say you got e-mail from kibo. I remember the introduction of the image tag, and the release of Mosaic. I remember when the mere suggestion of commerce on the Internet was enough to get you thrown off a service. Yea, verily, dirt is my younger brother.
My defining moment on the Internet was back a decade or so ago, connecting to Delphi's VAX server and going to an FTP site to download a program to create your own adventure games, and realizing the site was in Finland. "Holy shit!" I sez to myself. "It's 3am, I'm sitting in front of a computer in my underwear, and I'm in Finland! What a world, what a world...."
And some nights at 3am I look around and realize how little has changed.
