What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

The deal on my handle: Initially a stage name and eventually a persona, "Bonefish Johnny" is truer to my character and personality than my real name ever was. Even my mom calls me Boney! After 25 years of Bonefish, my birth name is but a pseudonym now. Until this profile, I have employed other handles over the years in countless fora, none heralding any memorable exploits. So identifying myself as 'bonefish' on Metafilter represents a complete lack of anonymity on my part and a commitment to transparency and integrity! Yay me!

My internet history goes back to 1994, the fora mentioned above being Usenet groups, some listserv's and a place called Bianca's Smut Shack. I was owning domains and calling myself a 'webmaster' by 1996. Now I'm on Facebook. I remain enthralled and bemused by what the internet brings me and what I do on it. Having come of age in an analog world, I know the differences between then and now. Now is better, yo!
