About
What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
The User name ? Not very original, I thought of it in my high school physics class.
Why I like Metafilter [among many reasons]:
"jokes, stories and lessons over other kinds of dialogue — over small talk, questions, arguments, speculation, supportive hey-I-think-you're-awesome talk
I grew up with metafilter as a teen and young adult (especially ask.metafilter). I began reading it as a high school senior or college freshman and then signed up as a college sophomore. It was the place I got advice.
I mostly lurk because: I tend to only comment on things which I'm knowledgeable about, it takes me a relatively longer time to articulate my thoughts into written word, especially in long paragraphs; I prefer to read the article(s)/links before commenting, and my thoughts are often already discussed.
Additionally, other people's thoughts deserve to be heard and many times, I'm reading a post several days after it was posted and conversations tend to die down at that time.
A flickr pool to post your album covers from metafilter mixtape swaps:
