Yale's 2010 Environmental Performance Index (EPI)

Yale's 2010 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) ranks 163 countries on 25 performance indicators tracked across ten policy categories covering both environmental public health and ecosystem vitality. These indicators provide a gauge at a national government scale of how close countries are to established environmental policy goals.
You can infer it by the color codes and the scores of some of the places you know have a better environment than the rest.
In short, a higher score is better.

Aargh. What a terrible, awkward way to present this information! Wading through flash hover-over's, maps-that-don't-anything, having to dig to find (boring but efficient) tables and simple charts. Some Tufte is in order for these people.

It would be nice if they actually explained which way up their rank was; is 1 bad or good?

Mexico also beats Canada, surprisingly. They're going up while we go down, and yet we've done better during the recession.
Canada was 12th just as recently as 2008. Now we're 46th. How far we've fallen with the (anti-) Environment Ministers of the Harper Government. Their policies of voluntary corporate stewardship instead of regulations with teeth are the problem. Think of that, Canadians, when you vote this week.
Interesting that the Liberals haven't made any hay with the Conservatives' poor Environment record. In fact, the Environment hasn't gotten any significant attention at all in this campaign. Is that a hangover from Dion stressing it too much?
