The X-Men animated series opening sequence redone in stop-motion (SLYT).
Well, I have an entire X-Men LjRPG that just got this sent to them with me going OMG GUYS YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS because most of us grew up on that cartoon.

This seems like an opportune moment to ask this question: When and why did they decide to stop calling Jean Grey Marvel Girl? Is Marvel Girl not a cool enough name? What's the deal with that?

I stand to be corrected, but I think it the Marvel Girl codename was scrapped during the Phoenix era (the first one), was resurrected for a while in early X-Factor and by the Inferno crossover had been forgotten.

Aha. According to the Wikipedia:
Jean was added to the Gold Team beginning in Uncanny X-Men #281 (October, 1991).[29] During this time, she was no longer given a codename, but instead was referred to by her full name, Jean Grey.
I gather she is back now in All New X-Men as Marvel Girl, because Beast went back in time to get his younger self, because Cyclops is a mutant terrorist who killed Xavier, and is hanging around with Magneto (who is bad again).
And so the original, younger X-Men have come to the modern day from whenever to give themselves a good stern talking to, in a move that I am sure will not make any more sense to you than it does to me.

The Phoenix/Dark Phoenix saga matured her quite a bit as a character, so it would be sort of inappropriate to keep on calling her 'Girl' when she came back to life. It is basically the same reason Sue Storm is called "The Invisible Woman" instead of "the Invisible Girl."

As a young comic book reader, it was incredibly transgressive that Jean Grey didn't even have a superhero name. It made the X-Men the most "real" comic book I read.

A change which only happened in Fantastic Four #284 -- one of the Byrne issues from the mid-80s if memory serves.
The problem with the name Marvel Girl is that it means nothing.
(I never really liked this cartoon, but I was fond of some of the earlier X-Men animated shows, especially the one where Wolverine was Australian. Because why the hell not?)

I got side-tracked.
Pryde of the X-Men is here in full but if you only have a minute why not rock out with the credits? You'd be singing the song all day.
This seems to be part of the Amazing Friends X-men. I can't find The Origin of Iceman right now. Sadly.

Basically, everyone who the X-Men fights winds up on the team, and everyone who winds up on the team they'll eventually have to fight. The rest is love triangles. Everyone is in at least two at any given time, and then they take turn being dead. When they come back to life, they'll either fight everyone or join the team again, and resume the love triangles in either event. Those not romantically linked together are secretly related. That's about it.

The music recreation was okay until the bell didn't toll at the Xavier/Magneto moment. I can't believe I know that, but as soon as it didn't happen I realized it was missing.

I tried to get my kids interested in this show through Netflix instant. On an LCD, the color pallette gave us all cavities. So much pink and orange and blue!

I too have fond memories of this show. Back in high school, my friend Perry and I would recreate the essential truth of every episode: He would clutch his fist and say "Charles" and I would grasp my head and moan "Magneto! Mmmwwuuaahh!" and fall over.
Look, it killed at 2:30 in the morning when everyone was wired on soda and Heath bars.

Animated X-Men still has one of the best TV theme songs. I even put it on some mix tapes back in the day.

Stupid bro ending. Otherwise, it reminded me of some very weird & (mostly) happy times in college. (Rewatched everything but the last season this year. I'd forgotten how incredibly bizarre that show was! Space travel! Time travel! Lost world!)

Cartoon openings are kind of great for quick shorthand introductions.
"You have 60 seconds to show our nine heroes and their powers and/or other defining characteristics, plus show all their recurring villains. Also they have a plane."
"Make sure to show Splinter splintering something and Shredder shredding something. Also we should know which turtle is a party dude."
