Because, Why Not?

Timelapse-icus Maximus 2012 "A Burning Man for Ants" James Cole, Byron Mason & Jason Phipps put together an interesting way to view Burning Man 2012; as a tilt-shift, time-lapse video.

This festival needs to be at least... three times bigger than this.

I had always thought Burning Man was for the fringe, not those with massive campers and 4x4 SUVs. I'm bummed now.

Even though the tilt-shift, time-lapse thing has been done and done, I loved this. It was lazily futuristic and at the same time, wonderfully old-timey; like footage from an early 1900s world's fair.

brocktoon: the "fringe" is often able to use their special talents or outside knowledge to make lots of money in this day and age. Why should they be poor? And even if they are, they can pool their money together and rent a camper.

Yes, clearly now it is.

Brocktoon, you might check out the Rainbow Family Gathering. It's been around for a long time and probably fits in better with your idea of what the fringe is.

Burning Man is for people who can afford and/or get access to the right combination of time off from work, tickets, airfare, beater-bicycles covered in electroluminescent wire, camping gear, a week's supply of food, water, sunscreen and body glitter, anda vehicle to carry all that in and out with, which is sometimes a camper or 4x4. They may or may not be the "fringe" of which you speak, but some level of affluence is really pretty helpful.

It can be all of the above. It's both, besides the fact that it's not mutually exclusive.

I'd love to see Bread and Puppet's circus or pageant done up this way.
