See, I'd be good with paying more for something that was patrolled by a thousand ducks rather than being bathed in pesticide.

That said, a thousand ducks is a whole BUNCH of poop.

Never mind the sustainability of having duck and wine in close proximity!

the ducks stand upright like penguins and are slim enough to fit between rows of vines

What a bunch of Rory Calhouns!

It would be so awesome if, in the Reuters video about half way thru, an ostrich went by. Just sayin'.

OMG I have unsolicited duck pics and I am sharing them here!

These are my ducks!

It IS a lot of poop, but unlike chicken poop, you can use it right away to fertilize the garden instead of needing to age it.

Oh my Fantods those are lovely ducks.

It's a pity the ducks are so costly to use as pest control. We know folks in this area who swear that chickens help control ticks.

It seems that if you have a thousand ducks, you ought to be able to sell them as meat and at least break even.

Thank you!

Ducks suit my situation very well because we have a pond and a creek, and they eat algae and mosquito larvae and deerfly larvae from the water. They get along so much more peacefully than chickens, and have a much longer egg laying career. My 6 year old hen is still laying daily.

Around here, guinea fowl (which your name reminds me of, as the chicks are called keets) are the celebrated tick-eaters. Now I've recently heard that Opossums eat more ticks than anybody. We're firmly in Lyme territory, so I'm a great fan of any creature taking up that cause.

This makes me so happy.

My patronus is clearly the white duck that clotheslines itself in the planted area behind the gaggle not just once, but twice.

If you turn on translations, you'll discover they are crying out, "DEATH TO SNAILS!"

That video is just awesome.

It needs to be turned into and endless loop. And then all day ducks will run across the bottom of my monitor.

White snails must be delicious, because they sure look enthusiastic about going to work.

I got a good chuckle out of the ducks finding themselves going in the flower beds and failing to jump over the little ropes.

They are Runner ducks, not Jumper ducks!

Indian Runner ducks look enthusiastic doing anything, even being herded by a border collie! In a bucket/on a walk? Check! Out for a stroll/eating cracked corn? Check! Just, like, going this way, then that way, then the other way again? Check!

When you are raising ducks for meat you slaughter them as soon as they reach market weight; these guys hang around I'd imagine until they are too old to work. You'd get eggs though which have some value. Wikipedia says they are indiscriminate on where they lay eggs though so you'd have to collect them from the vineyard.

Yeah runners are straight up layers and very productive. They're built like toothpicks though, not much meat on them to speak of.

The funny part is that they are chased back in by a man who is a foot tall and plays a mean-assed piano.
