I love them all!

I'm almost surprised that instagram doesn't have a filter that puts a border over your photo with "handwriting" you can add to it. It is so classic.

The shelter we adopted Millionaire from had named her Mao. When they made the adoption announcement over the PA the guy was really nervous and said "Congratulations to, uh, Meow on finding her forever home."

Ha! Our family cat Curry was named Fidel by the shelter. (And some friends of mine currently have a cat named Nicolae Meowșescu, Nico for short)

Is Mrs. Cadawalder the cat or the human whose lap the cat is on, though?

This is the greatest thing! It just reminds me of how much I love cats. Like, super love them. (I was never allowed to have a cat as a child and yet there are series of photos with me with different cats outside places we lived. My mom: "I don't know how you did it, but you always managed to find a cat or they found you.")

It's your origin story!

Come for the kitties, stay for the midcentury mod furnishings!

These are great! I love the glimpses of life in the past right behind the kitties, the furniture, clothing, etc.

Molly's owner had instructions on how to tie a tie posted next to his mirror!

And "Velinda & White Kittens" is an amazing photograph. Seriously as good as what Eggleston was doing at the same time.

I have a couple of sorta vintage cat photos- Stripey was my Mom's cat in 1980 or so- he had a love of trees. My Mother-in-law's cat in 1978 or so.

There's a vintage 404 page up now.

Aw, they're lovely, and I am a total sucker for a bit of retro Kodak slide film. Thanks!

Pursilla. Puz-a-puza. Meow.

These names are so good!

It’s amazing that our cat technology hasn’t really changed much in 60 years.

Meow looking at the aquarium is my favorite photo but they’re all my favorite kitty.

I loved how those cats would fit right in with all the cats we love today. Old pictures of dogs always look like they belong in the uncanny valley, because we've done such weird, tragic things in breeding so many of our current puppers (eg bulldogs, german shepherds, etc).

I love this Vintage Cats and People Tumblr, because people looked different in the olden days but cats look exactly the same. Cats are obviously time travelers.

Love the cats!

(Accompanied by a strange extra dose of nostalgia as, having been born in the 60s, many of the rooms and pieces of furniture remind me of my home growing up.)

Yup, no mullets or pompadours of pedal pushers or winkle pickers or skinny ties on cats. They have a timeless fashion!

Sudden realization that the ancient Romans probably had cats that would look pretty modern to our eye today.

Hmmm...sudden second idea for a clothing design line that will never go out of style even after centuries...somehow encorporating happy kittehs...

Grrr. “Incorporating”.

We don’t have slides, but my museum had Minerva the cat in the 1960s. He was featured in a few photo ops. Sheldon’s hep cat
