Cats go well with the holidays

Simon's Cat has the right spirit And, as always, they do love the wrapping paper. (If you must resort to the easy out of wrapping for the holiday with cat help, gift bags are acceptable diversions, too.)

Cats in boxes are always in style.

That cat with the wrapping paper is an exceptionally placid cat. Our cat, Dr. Cat, would not be feeling it.

My parents' cat would be super into being wrapped for Christmas, he loved paper. Often when my dad would read the Sunday paper he would climb up into my dad's lap and lay down on the page (which makes it surprisingly hard to hold onto) and eventually my dad would get fed up and just roll him up in the newspaper and let him fight it out on the floor.

I imagine wrapping him up for Christmas would start OK and end with him in a death-match with the wrapping paper and loving it.

I thought the cat wrapping video was going to go to the late great FlippyCat's demonstration of the subject. This newer video seems to adhere closely to the earlier instructions, while adding their own twists like that blue bowtie.

Flippycat wrapping is the best! Was just about to link (I also like the music better.)

Re wrapping the cat: one of mine, who considers all new objects on the floor to be in dire need of being sat upon lest they fly off into space or whatever other thought is going through her tiny feline brain, would probably be quite happy being wrapped. The other would probably endure it with some implied theatrical sighs.

Occasionally a cat turns up in your life who just happens to be a Christmas Bastard. Just a few weeks before he died, Yevgeny the Cat ripped up his last piece of gift wrap with the same twinkle in his eye he had as a kitten on his first Christmas, climbing up the tree with a shiny plastic apple dangling from his teeth. He would usually be sweetly sleeping halfway up it when we'd come down in the morning.

Toby the Tabby's favorite holiday bastardry was sweeping all the porcelain figures out of the Nativity scene with a couple sweeps of his big old paddlepaw, and cramming his giant striped ass into the little stable for a long winter's nap. Baby Jesus had been glued back together so many times, he was developing a marked resemblance to Frankenstein's Monster.

Libby the Darn Fool Cat had a case of Pica, so for years we couldn't have glass ornaments, tinsel, or lights near the bottom of the tree where she could reach them. Once, Yevgeny knocked a glass bulb to the floor, and she picked up a big piece in her teeth and started to walk off with it before I caught her.

One year the tree just kept drying out, and I couldn't figure out why the water reservoir in the stand was always empty. Until I saw Feral Bob wiggle and worm his little nose between the trunk and the tree skirt, and somehow extend his telescoping tongue down into the reservoir.

Mississippi the New York State Maine Coon Cat had very specific ideas about bows and packages. She didn't want to *play* with the bows; she was just firm in her conviction that they shouldn't be stuck to the wrapped boxes. She'd go under the tree, take a bow in her magnificent teeth, shake her head to pull it off, set it down on the floor, then look up at me as if to say, “There, I took care of that little matter for you.” she'd de-bow several in one sitting with secretarial efficiency, then calmly walk away.
