"The following conversation is one of a regular series of conversations that I have with my 13-year-old dog, Raika. Some of our conversations are funny and some are sad, but many will ring true for anyone who has the pleasure, and heartbreak, of owning a dog coming near the end of her life."

For clarity, Raika is the oldest. Lyra is next, and Brito is the baby dog.

On my god - I've been seriously considering adopting a dog. My cat, Janie (1996-2016), has been gone about a year and a half and I miss having someone else around the house. There hasn't been a dog in my life for 35 years and I finally have the time to properly care for one. Then I read this and I feel like I'm mourning a dog I haven't even met yet. Maybe I need to reconsider this idea.
