Have an exhaustive discussion on point 77, hopefully will post prior to this thread closing...

This reads like an outline for YA dystopia series.

Also, no mention of day care, parental leave, workplace protections (which maybe are all things that UK readers can take for granted?).

Glad to see no reference to “blockchain”, “cryptocurrencies” or “smart contracts”.

These are all things UK readers can, for now, take for granted. How long this remains the case is, as with everything else, up in the air.

This sounds like a hellscape. Should an algorithm be allowed to scan your social media and fire you? Gee, I wonder.

17. Deep work
Always being switched on means we never have the chance to think deeply. That is a problem for companies wanting to get the most out of their employees.

Yes. If only there were some way for companies to get even more out of their employees. That's totally my big problem with "always being switched on".

I've got ten more years before I could potentially retire so I'm hoping that I can dodge most of these for at least a decade.

Reading through some of the linked detailed descriptions, I'm thinking about connections to critiques offered in Critical Management Studies.

This Richard Levins Morales poster offers a nice complement to 51. Leaveism.

26. Finance vests
The casualisation of the workplace is growing. Even some of the most august of institutions are replacing suits with fleece shells in the name of comfort.

Maybe they could just turn up the $%*! air conditioning.

Sincerely,

Women

I'm convinced there is no proper office thermostat setting. In my pod at work, two of us will be wearing jackets, the third complaining about the lack of A/C. My wife describes the same sorts of scenarios happening at her office.

We complain about the AC at work constantly but I've never seen a fleece shell; we just wear hoodies.

Why are people on metafilter so interested in these procrastination nannies?

Get back to work, Sheeple!
