Very cool and her illustrations are definitely worth more than $1, so I hope the auction got more than that. It's interesting how much we don't know about the way women dressed.

Looks like all of her illustrations are up to ~$140, with 13 hours remaining.

Great video! I'll check out her other stuff.

Clicks link.

Did I just want 20 minutes of period fashion explanation masquerading as entertainment?

I've never heard of Bernadette Banner before, but this is what the web was made for: someone posting wonderfully informative and entertaining content about their passion. Thanks for posting.

I Grew Up in a Corset. Time to Bust Some Myths. (Ft. Actual Research)

In retrospect, it makes sense that corsets are support garments.

I've always thought a corset made more sense than modern bras in a lot of ways. Possibly for sports too as sports bras are so uncomfortable. I might have to get one eventually and try it.

This video showed up in my recommendations a few days ago. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about fashion, sewing, or costuming, and I don't have all that much personal interest in them, but I do like listening to knowledgeable, passionate people talk about their subjects. This was great, and I enjoyed watching several more videos by Bernadette Banner. I shared them with my wife and now I think she wants to make her Lady Sherlock Holmes outfit.

Wearing any kind of actually well fit corset whilst doing sport - at least any sport that involves moving the trunk/core of your body - would be a very, very bad idea.

The one exception to this might be certain kinds of weight lifting, and a weight support belt is related to, but is not, a corset for very good phisology reasons.

I have watched all of her videos since Lexica posted this last year. They are variously about design, construction, shopping for materials, traveling to costume events and, my favorite, historically accurate hand sewing techniques. Highly recommend.
