For some reason made me want to re-read the Last Policeman. It's a 2012 sci fi novel about the end of the world, but also "How would people act if they truly understood how impending was their mortality?"

We're all so fucked. My neighbors are morons holding no-mask parties while letting their un-neutered pitbulls bark all night at the never ending fireworks, and the gyre widens.

This was great, and by coincidence it was the second "bee" poem I'd read in the past 24 hours--the first was Charlotte Turner Smith's "The Humble Bee" in her 1804 book introducing nature poetry to children.
