Greg Egan's Dream Factory is a story about the ethics of turning cats into entertainment devices with brain electrodes.
This is fun. Thanks!
Also, while I'm not a fan of this particular future, I *am* kinda looking forward to a world with ubiquitous, accurate, cheap, desktop-genetically-engineered pets. A household with cat-sized-horse and a flying fox with the brain of a cat would be a lot of fun. At least until the bioweapons and de-extincted pleistocene megafauna get loose.

Leon disagreed. “It’s a trick question. You can’t just multiply anything you want. x is an angle, but cos x is something else. It’s like multiplying apples and oranges.”I was reading this quickly and didn't initially get the joke and started to complain about this statement. I think I very nearly failed a reading comprehension test.
