Mexican abuela, upright member of the community, and proud matriarch Catarina Orduña Pérez had one request for her grave - for it to be topped with a turgid memorial to her symbol of the stiff joyful energy that filled her life. (SLVice, NSFW for pictures of said memorial.)

In a situation where someone I knew has definitely not had their departing wishes fulfilled, so I am happy that this woman is getting what she wanted.

I learned a bit about mexican (and other cultures') way to honor their dead in some german museum for sepulchral culture, and pictures of this belong right into their collection.

Just, don't put anything like this next to my dad's grave, please. I don't want to have to bury him again.

Mexican grandmothers are undefeated. They’re loving, caring, fierce and funny. I grew up in a Mexican neighborhood, I’ve dodged chanclas while at friends’ houses. And if you get on nana’s bad side, she’s gonna make you wish you’d never been born. (And then she’s probably gonna feed you.)
