Good morning!

Or afternoon, or evening, or whatever it happens to be where you are. Either way, maybe waking up would be easier if the iPhone alarm were a piano ballad?

Previously from Tony Ann: using the neighbor's car alarm as a backing track.

Augh! I love it! It is beautiful and gives me anxiety!

Ideal doorbell sound.

Much better than google lady yelling "SOMEONE IS AT THE FRONT DOOR" like please I'm already freaked out let's not exacerbate that. I'd prefer this lovely melody, which matches the "oh no, a person wishes to interact" energy but in a pleasant way.

This is a really lovely way to re-contexualize what's actually a pretty nice piece of short music, but holy hell, the pumping compression is making me feel seasick.

Came here to say the same thing about the compression! It feels like the byproduct of a bad limiter setting rather than a conscious artistic choice. The playing and music are gorgeous, though.

Also: do all iPhone users use the same alarm?

I suspect there are some that prefer the default ringtone (which isn't the original default ringtone) and some who might not be aware that they can change the ringtone in settings. Years ago, I found and paid for the Cleartones collection and haven't used any of the built-in iOS sounds since then.

This is the soundtrack for a tragic Final Fantasy boss fight. Your character has been hearing the motif all game and suddenly everything comes together in this wildass way and I’m not crying you’re crying.

My iPhone wake up alarm is the theme from Fringe, which is kind of like a piano ballad if you think about it.

Ow that compression hurts my brain.

If that’s your jam, try this song by KIZ

I use Helter Skelter as my wake-up ring tone. Works every time.

I am sorry, NOTHING will ever come close to this Indian "Honey Bunny" ringtone:
There is a 12-second version, a
1:38 version and here is the full song.

That's how you do a ringtone.

(I believe "Honey Bunny" is a reference to the opening scene from Pulp Fiction.)

Do iPhones not come with a range of options for alarm sounds like normal phones do?

Yes, iPhones come with a range of alarm options. That doesn't mean anyone decides to change them.

This is the soundtrack for a tragic Final Fantasy boss fight.

I can see it, though my most immediate thought was this is the soundtrack to at least two scenes in every episode of Tales From the Loop.

I used to like playing around with ringtones and try out different things, but for the last pile of years I've been happy with no ringtone and my phone set to buzz, it makes it easy to ignore most calls, since that is my phone preference. I should probably check my voice messages.

At least I can use my song list for my wake up alarm on my iphone. I typically use the Ship Alarm from the American Astronaut.

I used the beginning of from Penguin Cafe Orchestra's Telephone and Rubber Band for years and years, until one update made it too hard to transfer that little clip over.

For many years my alarm has been Harold Budd & Brian Eno's “First Light”.
