Friday the 10th, part X: the Return of Jason

Jason Pettus is back online. While offline, he was stood up by a swinger, tried out for a reality tv show, had his book courted, then rejected by a publisher, and had six teeth removed. Before there was a Blogger, before "weblog" was even a word, Pettus was chronicling his life and (mis)adventures as a novelist, poet, and porn aficionado struggling to geek out a living in Chicago. I can't believe I went 3 months with no daily dose of Pettus. Thank the stars, he hath returned, with a snappy new design.

... and the Geocities site is already croaked.

MeFi'd already, and not terribly surprising. Linking to Geocities rarely survives more than a few seconds.

Arr. He's been MetaFiltered. Put down the "linking to Geocities" plank maties. This doesn't look very good for the "Before there was Blogger" universe.

I don't know Pettus personally, or impersonally for that matter, but perhaps he should consider switching from a Geocities site.

Oops. He boasts of having 15,000 visitors a day at the height of his site's popularity. I figured he was paying for extra bandwidth.

"geek out a living"

I love a good turn of a phrase.

"I can't believe I went 3 months with no daily dose of Pettus."

Geocities - Killing the good sites since 1996.

All hail Google.

He was unemployed for three months, hence the reliance on Geocities.

Jason's former site was 'ilikejason.com' which expired on 01-mar-2003.

People shouldn't post links to GeoCities sites on MetaFilter. They never survive past the first day, so the the post becomes irrelevant.

They get hit hard the first few hours, but I was able to see the site just fine a couple of minutes ago.

Yep. It's up.

eustacescrubb, you made my Saturday morning. Jason and I were friends in college and got into all kinds of artistic mischief in those days. I literally lost track of him about seven years back ... and now, thanks to your post, have gotten caught up on much of his life and fired him off an email to boot.

Thanks!
