Stories about the lives we've made

Making the Modern World brings you powerful stories about science and invention from the eighteenth century to today. It explains the development and the global spread of modern industrial society and its effects on all our lives. The site expands upon the permanent landmark gallery at the Science Museum, using the Web and dynamic multimedia techniques to go far beyond what a static exhibition can do. Terrific wrapping, excellent content.

I've just browsed a few sections, but it's really impressive. Thanks!

"On 8 September 1945 the first V2 rocket struck England."

Shit! That is secret history!

Good stuff. Here's a related exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum. I haven't been, but it looks interesting; I considered it for an FPP, but the Web treatment is a little chintzy.

Icky, twitchy, unnecessary flash on the home page. Bleah. This is a "Fernando" site, built on the notion that "it's better to look good than to feel good, dahlings".

Some of the stuff deep within the site is pretty good--they should rip away a bunch of the fluff layers to let people get directly to them. "How did enigma work" embeds a text intro into the Flash, for example: shouldn't have done that. Leave the Flash for what you actually need Flash for: the animated demo.
