Makin' copies!

I first saw Chel White's Photocopy Cha Cha (mpg excerpt - can't find whole thing online) in 1996 and I thought it was fantastic. In 2002 I saw Virgil Widrich's Copy Shop, which impressed me even more. Yesterday, thanks to Kottke, I saw Wildrich's phenomenal Fast Film. Wow. From Channel 4's page on the film: "Director Virgil Widrich captured stills from ... 300 movies, and made over 65,000 photocopies of these, then folded them into a variety of shapes and animated them." {the two VW films are unfortunately in Real format but definitely worth putting up with the format for}

If anyone knows how to get or convert the VW films in/to a format I can burn to dvd, please let me know!

Wow.

At first when I saw the corners crumple I thought this was going to be similar to what Don Hertzfeldt has done, but this turns up up a notch. Bam!

i've seen prints of both of those at the boston underground film festival (as well as widrich's previous photocopy-centric short "copy shop"). amazing stuff.

RealAlt makes Real files much better to deal with. If you think you must have product from Real, go get the ad free version from the BBC.

we had Fast Film at the BGSU New Music & Art Festival last fall... very cool stuff. to top it off, it was shown in the Cla-Zel theatre in downtown Bowling Green, built in 1926.
