i don't get it.

The cryptic glyphs are "GMT+4.30" backwards.

I figured THAT out, but it's still driving me nuts... GAH!

I gave up on level 3, I know how to solve it, I really do. But I don't have the patience beyond this.

For #3 think analog.

Oof. Never mind. That was stupidly easy.

Back to work. Thanks for the help.

Er, what am I missing here? I just see an image and the title of the game. How do I start it?
posted by salmacis at 2:00 PM on September 12, 2005

I don't get number two either, I tried:

tarot, justice, prudence, tarotcards, dead, temple, saint and a bunch of others

salmacis, the first one is an image mirrored. The plane is near the place where the first answer is. You have to go and figure out what country/countries are at GMT + 4 hours 3 minutes. They are looking for a city actually and not a country (something omitted). The second one has me stuck though.
posted by geoff. at 2:11 PM on September 12, 2005

geoff.: The answer is right there.

#7 has me stumped.

Er, are we talking about this image? That's the only image I see, and I can't correlate your comment with it.

salmacis: you may need to install shockwave/flash. The menu and game are all .swf.
posted by eyeballkid at 2:26 PM on September 12, 2005

I have flash...using a Mac, though, so that might be it. I presume the flash you're talking about is directly beneath the logo, since I see the flashblock arrow - just nothing when I click on it to play the flash.

Shall we agree that helpful clues are welcomed, but no spoilers?

If you insist, of course, you can do a search on the first few passwords to find more.

posted by iconomy at 7:06 PM on September 12, 2005

That makes sense, but the logic of #3 escapes me somehow. Probably because I'm tired.
posted by zoogleplex at 7:07 PM on September 12, 2005

oops, shoulda previewed. I'll have to do that later, but I think I get it now. Devious!

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't think these, and other ones like this, are not even remotely fun...
posted by BlackLeotardFront at 7:19 PM on September 12, 2005

You're not the only one, BLF. I generally don't go for this sort of thing, but this one is so willfully opaque that I was intrigued and got hooked.
posted by brundlefly at 7:35 PM on September 12, 2005

Damn, I finally got past a good number. So many of the answers seem so obvious now that I answered them.

On to 25.....

Oh, and if anyone needs hints up through 24, just ask. No spoilers though.

I'm hung up on 7 (must be tired...) Hints, anyone?
posted by FormlessOne at 8:31 PM on September 12, 2005

Never mind - figured it out. I hate OS-specific answers...
posted by FormlessOne at 8:35 PM on September 12, 2005

On windows, if you tap the key with that exact symbol on it, a prompt will come up asking if you really want to enable a certain feature.
posted by mystyk at 8:35 PM on September 12, 2005

Just a hint, you need to be using IE for this, at least on Windows. Heh. I normally use Firefox, and thought I was too damn stupid to even get into the game for way too long.
posted by daveqat at 8:55 PM on September 12, 2005

Is there really any reason for this to be in Flash at all? I mean, simple html and a little encryption algorithm for the passwords would do the trick, right? Or maybe I'm not far enough along to see the Flash goodies.
posted by blendor at 9:02 PM on September 12, 2005

In many of them there are mouseover effects and second (or third) pages. Not to mention the moving graphics.

Yes, the password could be hashed, and a comparison done to that value, but then the check at the beginning of each level would become significantly more complex.

I have a theory that at the higher levels people are simply deconstructing the flash source to get the pass.
posted by mystyk at 9:16 PM on September 12, 2005

Level 48 is hilarious! The nun with the Japanese sea cucumber in #63 is spooky, though. Don't let your kids see it.
posted by Pericles at 4:32 AM on September 13, 2005

Hmm. Hint for #5 would be helpful. I get the zoom in, find the word, search in Google. Now I'm looking through this really naff 'art'. Do I have to do this? I mean it hurts.
posted by grahamwell at 6:35 AM on September 13, 2005

Can someone please explain 10?
posted by BigCalm at 7:03 AM on September 13, 2005

#5. That's a tolkien novel character, and it's showing a well-known scene from a movie based on his novels. What is the creature called.
posted by mystyk at 7:28 AM on September 13, 2005

#10. Those various computer related symbols are a mathematical code for letters.
posted by mystyk at 7:31 AM on September 13, 2005

I'm still not getting 10. I need a bigger hint.
posted by dness2 at 10:45 AM on September 13, 2005

10's pretty pissy actually. The answer isn't a recognisable word and the last letter is the inital letter of "Netherlands Antilles" - even though the related abbreviation for the international code (599 - taken from hex 35, 39 and 39) is ANT, so you'd be forgiven for thinking it was 'a'. Clumsy.
posted by grahamwell at 1:58 PM on September 13, 2005

On 10, if my comment totally confuses you, did you see the little arrow in the top right pointing to the hint page? (it's easy to miss). Thanks mystyk for 5 by the way, I think if I'd looked through any more of those gallerys I'd have gone insane. These comments are grumpy because 12 is just annoying me and the hints don't make any sense.
