ChiliBeer: [flash] Capsaicin has many, many medical uses and a few not so medical ones. Alchohol and capsaicin have been shown to help with heart disease, maybe they are just trying create a heart disease tonic? The good news is there are no interactions with cocaine.

I used to drink this stuff (or something like it) in college, about 12 years ago. It's quite hard to make beer spicy, but it can be done.

I also used to eat raw habanero peppers. That's a pretty sweet rush, if you like heat. I once ate three in a row and ended up in the fetal position in a corner, and all my extremities had gone numb.

For true heat sauces, nobody beats Dave's Insanity. Nothing comes close, afaic.

The good news is there are no interactions with cocaine.

A chili beer done right is a sublime and fiery miracle. Done wrong (as my own experiments in beer making have proven) and it's a WMD. Fans of chili beers and other spicy drinks should try making a michelada sometime if a trip Mexico is not in your immediate plans.

It's very interesting

Capsaicin seems wonderful and most importantly no company can claim it costed 23929323249 BiTrillion Dollars to develop it.

Of course they can still market it "as if" ..not that any company would ever lie to get more profit..no no no.

Anyway in southern italy food is frequently spiced with chili like vegetables and people apparently live longer and are in good health..elders often comment about the good effects of their diet on their longevity and quality of life, combined with a far less compulsive- obsessive lifestyle.

I've had a few chile beers, and though a serious chilehead I have to say that beer is the thing I want to drink to cool down, not heat up.

No, for real hallucinations, I have to take acid or be extremely sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation actually works better.

I did however, start slamming a friend's head into a tree to demonstrate the pain. But I was also drunk.

Although it's not the most flavorful of chile peppers, I still have a warm spot in my heart for the wild chiltepine, the ancestor of our domestic varieties.

There's a great ice cream shop in New Orleans (The Creole Creamery on Prytania) that makes a "creole vanilla" flavor, which is spicy, cool, and oddly refreshing.

I tried some chili beer once. Once. It will take someone with a heap of motivational power to get me to try again. Ugh! Like beer with dirt.

rkent - I was going to give a Blair's link, but you beat me to it. I like Dave's, but it seems Blair's is simply about maxing out the Scoville rating.

You're missing a taste test. Personally, I'll try anything twice; the first time may have just been a bad experience.

People would 'do' this to a beer because people like to create things. If there is one thing I've learned from working in the adult entertainment industry, it is that no matter what you can think of, someone out there will not only buy it, but will love it and pay 29 dollars per month for it.

The oddest chilli beverage I have ever tasted has to be chilli mead. Made by an experienced mead-brewing friend of a friend, he brewed it in gallon batches and called it "Highlander".

Possibly, because it would take only one....
