Oh, there's so many other bad ones out there! Some of these aren't even that bad comparably.

How did Southwest/JetBlue get seeded against ChoicePoint/Sallie Mae? Actually, why are these two budget airlines even in the bracket? What's so bad about them?

Results 1 - 10 of about 230,000 for halliburton sucks

Clearly Halliburton sucks more. Next . . .

Seems like Exxon and Union Carbide should be in the running.

Shouldn't this include some of the REASONS why these companies are bad?

It includes the U.S. government AND the U.S. Postal Service on a list of "companies"?

Why include Enron? They may have once been a contender, but all the baddies are long gone and there's not much left of the company today.

Don't they know how to format a playoff bracket properly?

If anyone wants to nuke Monsanto, please give me a heads up. I'm at a bad distance, and I'd want to be either closer or farther away, and it'd be nice to grab a lawnchair and a cold one for the show.

TIA.

Lockheed?

GE?

General Dynamics?

What exactly do they consider sucky? Financial irregularity? Lack of a soul? Greed? Ineptitude?

The worst company in America is when you accidentally invite over that vegan Marxist Wiccan friend and that Republican born-again friend over for dinner at the same time (and they bring their snotty brats with them). THAT's the worst company in America.

Sony v. Google is an interesting match-up.

JetBlue? After googling "JetBlue sucks," I see that they shared passenger itineraries with the TSA/DoD. That sucks, of course, but it seems like a tiny hiccup for a company that seems to be pretty good otherwise. Especially compared to the Sonys and WalMarts of the world.

And Enron? That's not even a fucking company anymore. If you're going to allow busted up companies, why not put Standard Oil or the British East India Company?

Because Monsanto creates genetically engineered seeds, and if you're not up on the agricultural debate -- farmers picking seeds based on which crops are the strongest are okay, scientists doing this much more efficiently are bad.

But when Monsanto laid me off after only 3 months work they gave me a whopping 9 months severance. So in my eyes, I don't care if they invent 50 foot hot dogs, Monsanto is the best.
posted by Gungho at 1:54 PM on February 22, 2006

geoff.: I think most of the focus on Monsanto as opposed to other GE'ers is due to their RIAA-esque IP restrictions and over-the-top enforcement.

Many people consider monsanto evil for their role in pushing BGH on the american dairy industry, even when most dairy farmers didn't want it.

Some people consider monsanto evil because they use a highly restrictive EULA on their seeds, such that you are NOT allowed to use leftover seeds from one planting, during the next.

Some people consider monsanto evil because they focus on genetic manipulation, instead of traditional breeding approaches.

I consider Monsanto bad because they polluted the shit out of South Western Idaho. Ask anybody who lives in Soda Springs or Pocatello.

Oh. That and their plan to blow up the moon that they announced in their 2005 Year End Report to Investors.

Imagine a world where ExxonMobil gives back

Holy Shit! What a stupid article.

"Some of this gigantic financial flow, of course, is because of intelligent investment, efficiency and hard work. A very large part, however, occurred simply because ExxonMobil happened to be standing in the right place at the right time holding a bushel basket..."

Isn't that the enitre point of business? To find a field where you can make profits? I mean, I might be really skilled and smart and hard working at buttering toast, but there's no market for it.

Why is it that Google is making money just because a lot of people like to search for things on the Internet? Isn't that, like, really unfair or something? Shouldn't they be required to give some of those profits back? I mean, those people are just searching for stuff on the Internet and Google is just in the right place at the right time to make money off them. WTF?

Well, they don't include NORWOOD the printing and freebie giant who buys up small successful companies and closes them down (including the calendar factory I worked for in Washington, Iowa for 16 years on it's 100th anvs.)...so I'm not playing.

Not sure of the criteria that has been chosen here? It can't be from the employee's perspective because that would rule out any government agency. I couldn't imagine any criteria that would consider the USPS as a "worst company in the US". My votes would be GM, Microsoft, and an old company I worked for-URS Corp.

Monsanto is evil because of patenting lifeforms & suing farmers over seed saving. Next?

"I consider Monsanto bad because they polluted the shit out of "
my hometown as well. As a matter of fact, when I was a kid, Monsanto was called "Chemstran" and had smokestacks that belched a thick yellow toxic cloud.
But now they're nice and they feed the world.

I couldn't imagine any criteria that would consider the USPS as a "worst company in the US".

Well, any private company which decided to go into business selling money orders for amounts up to $1,000 and then decided it made sense to start the day with $40 in the drawer and that anyone who needed to cash a larger money order could kiss their money goodbye, the Uniform Commercial Code's bit on honoring negotiable instruments notwithstanding, would find themselves on the business end of a class action suit filed via BlackBerry before the counsel in question had finished shaving. And then there's the whole "we're going to charge extortionate rates to deliver your mail, but it's about even whether it gets there" schtick (at my last apartment I got mail for between 2-5 people per day besides myself, most of whom had never lived at that address, and most of whom did not appear in my mailbox more than once, which means that literally thousands of people's mail got misdirected to my mailbox alone, include Social Security and payroll checks, "home videos," and other exciting items).

But then maybe I'm just bitter.

How can one think ANY corporation beat the US Government? The government ALLOWS the corporation(s) to exist! The government ALLOWS Monsanto, Disney, Wal-Mart, in short - the list of players to exist!

Does not allowing evil make you MORE evil via some transitive principle

The lack of giant news corporations makes this all seem ill considered. After all, it is the lack of reporting which has allowed the the government to make regulations favorable to corporate interests.

GE should be high up the list. Big war profiteers AND media owner, under one umbrella.

The worst company in the world is the one that doesn't make money. After all, that's the whole point of business (sustainable profit) and if you can't do that, you suck as a business.

Or maybe someone should define the term "worst"? Worst at what?
