Easter Camping Down Under

In Australia, the Easter weekend is bracketed by holidays on the Friday and the Monday (for those not gutted by the new workchoices legislation) while school is out for a mid semester break. The slowly cooling autumn weather makes it the most popular time of the year for camping. If you are venturing outdoors, check the local weather, do a little star gazing, pack your gear, and remember to be safe. Its a good time to sing around a fire and spend time with your loved ones. Enjoy the view, maybe tell some stories, and spare a thought for those camping up above.

"In Australia, the Easter weekend is bracketed by holidays on the Friday and the Monday"

That explains the dearth of projects.

Yes during this time the number of php mysql and asp dot net projects we get from Australia decreases

But it comes back to Normal after Easter :)

Do Australians have a colorful slang term for "Christ," like "Jeeza" or "Geezo" or something?

No, but we do have a special day of prayer when we thank Jesus for sacrificing his life for our public holidays.

Course we do. For both his name and his title. 'Jeez' and 'crikey'. They are exclamations, we don't refer to him as 'Jeez Crikey', though on reflection I may start to do so.

For those about to camp, I recommend trying out a game of werewolf. We played it last weekend while camping with some friends by the Hawkesbury (near Sydney) and had a total blast.

Tioman islands here, most probably. Then again, I'm situated north of the equator, so it's less of an autumnal escape, and more of a, well, escape to erewhon.

Right on the money. I'm heading down to Jindabyne for some bush walking in the amazing Kosciuszko National Park.

Burgatron, I am super-jealous of your bushwalking. My boyfriend and I went camping at Thredbo 2 summers ago and it was just gorgeous. If you have a car, try hunting down the Tom Groggin campgrounds, further down the road from Thredbo. You're right next to the Murray River, which looks absolutely glorious first thing in the morning. You might have to drive along the track a bit further than the car park, though.

And walking partway up Kosciuszko was just fab. My boy also got to indulge his love of downhill mountainbiking at Thredbo too.

I am also extra jealous as I have the entire week off (being a teacher), but am going into hospital for day surgery, which will suck out about half of my week.

Just as long as the couch counts as camping, and the long walk to the fridge and back counts as bushwalking, I'm in!

Seeing as the Melburnians (?) are aparently not going camping at the weekend, I suggest another meetup.
Possibly at pompomtom's as he may be unable to leave his couch by the sound of it.
No one else can use that excuse though!
