And this far funnier and less cringeworthy than Hillary & Bill Clinton's "Sopranos" homage earlier this year. And it's encouraging to see that there are still some right-wingers out there with a better sense of humor than "Mallard Fillmore". I thought the often-horrendous Ben Stein was the only one left. But if he became the running mate of Al Franken to make the "Franken/Stein" ticket, I'd love it but still never vote for it.

That was... surreal. It took a joke about the ridiculous over-macho approach of contemporary GOP politics and played it straight. I don't know what the joke was... that "yeah, you got that right, we really are big dicked mofos who will plow down the enemies and convert them to christianity"? Or "can't you see how ridiculous this looks when we play it straight? obviously we're not that stupid."

It's weird because you wouldn't see a similar ad on the left, with them all pretending to be commies or something, but this ad basically counts on the fact that more people are viscerally happy with the idea of military dictators than wishy-washy manipulative socialism, so you can say, hey it was "just a joke" (even if you never have to explain exactly what joke it was meant to be) but still create an image of yourself as a badass fascist. It's going for the lizard brain.

iknowimaloser: you're right, that was probably gratuitous. He posted your real name in a google-searchable thread. Uncool.

However, you shot yourself in the foot. Before, when people searched for your real name, they would find this thread and its (combative, but pretty innocuous) accusation that mefites are self-righteous. Now, because of your overreaction, they'll find you stomping around throwing a profanity-laden temper tantrum, which makes you look five hundred times more idiotic.

When you associated your username with your real name, you should have understood that you could no longer count on practical anonymity. Yes, even though you apparently didn't understand that it was going on your public profile.

Maybe you'll be lucky and the mods will delete Elim's excerpt of your profile and all the traces of your flameout. They don't owe it to you, but maybe it'll happen. Either way, please take this as a lesson to choose your words carefully whether you think you're anonymous or not. Don't be a greater internet fuckwad, as carsonb was kind enough to link.

In a related topic, no matter how long you've been lurking the site, it's bad style to sign up and immediately start shitting all over the members of the community. Yes, there's a lot of self-righteousness on Mefi (*points to self*), but as you've demonstrated today it's easy to criticize the mote in thy brother's eye and ignore the beam in thine own.

On preview: looks like most of your flaming is already doused, but my point stands.

The "securing the borders" thing in 2008 will be what last election's "gay marriage referendum" was: a ploy to get the angry and ignorant to the polls (and thus vote for Republicans).

This right wing scam has its roots in the so-called "right to life issue" in 1980, in which the stupid masses helped elect Reagan (the beginning of the end of democracy as we know it in America).

Yeah, Mike Huckabee is about as funny as a bucket of AIDS. We Arkies will wait for the rest of y'all to catch up to what we figured out about him years ago, since most of the national media is doing fuck-all to actually look into his record..

Gov. Huckabee did more to help poor people in Arkansas during his tenure than Sen. Clinton, Edwards and Obama combined in their tenures in the Senate. Now, I don't agree with his social views or his heinous views on Guantanamo, but his aid to the poor cannot be disputed.

Yes, he changed his views on the poor, but don't be silly. This is a man who withheld state emergency funds to help tornado victims because the legislation that provided for those funds listed such natural disasters as "acts of God," and goddamn if he wasn't going to hold on to that money until the wording was changed. This is a man who claimed to be a champion of health in Arkansas and withheld state money for poor victims of AIDS to get drugs. This is a man who used tax money as his own personal family slush fund. His aid to the poor can absolutely be disputed.
