Craigslistindex graphs data pulled from Craigslist listings.

On the front page you can compare the costs of different regions. Listed in further detail are: rental, real estate, auto, and overall pricings; as well as personal and job listings. (via Mashup Awards, more Craigslist Mashups)

It was working fine half an hour ago. It's become very intermittent.

Apparently San Francisco is less gay than the national average, and my town is gayer.

What? Don't look at me.

You'll be thrilled to hear that the most expensive car on Craigslist is an 89 Civic.

Thanks Happy Dave. I was trying to remember that site.

See now thats the kind of data collection that might make CL actually useful. (Assuming the data is accurate and fresh) Of course, you also have to keep in mind that the data only represents the small percent of the population that posts on CL. Similar to LostBurner's comment, my town shows a higher percentage of homosexual postings (51% compared to 49% hetero), but that doesnt mean my town has more homosexuals. It just means it has more homosexuals posting to CL than hetero's posting to CL.

either way, I'm still painfully (hetero)-single, so I'm not sure how this knowledge helps me ;P

lostburner, I was surprised at the same thing; SF is less gay than the national average. Though, thinking about it, it probably has something to do with the fact that there's less social stigma to homosexuality here.

I'd love to see graphs that are more user-definable; feeding the data from the Musical Instruments section would be a lot of fun for me.

But this is cool, even with the current, limited data set.

Dorothy Gambrill, of Cat and Girl fame, made some sweet maps along these lines, too.

Why isn't Washington DC inputted into this data? I smell a rat.

Yeah, the most expensive cars table is just stupid. Those are mostly (all?) typos/accidental prices in cents.
