Rexdale usually has better rappers than this -- maybe they're from the Lakeshore campus.
But it's a serious message: everyone should just carry a reusable travel mug with them at all times, no excuses.

I'm totally not hating on this.
Is it brilliant rap? No. I mean, I'm probably not the best judge on the planet, but there's some hip-hop which makes even this rock/folk/industrial/classical person perk up his ears. This is not it.
However... it IS socially conscious, seems to be asking a serious question about a specific societal problem, isn't gansta (and reflects me back to the social hip-hop of the 80s in some strange way)...
I think it's great that someone saw something which was bugging them and made a (catchy if not actually good) song about it which addressed the problem with a certain amount of humor and creativity. We used to sing about our social issues all the time, going back to the pre-Pete Seeger days, and forward through most of the popular music of the 20th century, give or take a vapid series of years here and there. I'd love to see a lot more of this kind of thing happening. I think it's good for us.
I wonder what kind of effect it's having on their campus?

Humber College could have beat up some grade schoolers with this at last weekend's Green Toronto Awards. As it is, Compost Santa is still the winner in my books (runner up: Don't be a Fool, Carpool)

Someday I'd like to see a post about hip-hop on metafilter that wasn't a schticky ironic group of white kids making fun of rap, or doing some kind of ironic fluff. I think i've made the point before.
