The Amazing Digital Circus: Candy Carrier Chaos!
Also: the "splash" graphic and sound effect then the bandit is being dragged behind the truck is a direct reference to the popular Steam game Pizza Tower!

Well queensissy you're in for a treat, because tomosteen has a whole Youtube channel of wonderful videos like that one. I found out about them through clavdivs's recent FPP!

Movie: Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
There are many guffaws spurred by the effects in this, but the one that got me the most, over and over again, was how lousy and half-assed the lighting of the miniatures is.

We've seen this movie at MST Club, and the part I found funniest was the scantily clad girl they got to recline and writhe literally on top of the title.

Special Event: Rifftrax: The Amazing Bulk
We hold MST Club Thursday nights, starting at 7 PM US Eastern time, at https://cytu.be/r/Metafilter_MST3KClub. The "main event" happens at 9 PM Eastern.

Some riffs are 90-comedy edgy, especially those from a decade back or longer, and may contain isolated instances of various phobias. We apologize for that, and explain it as being a product of the time, but if that means you don't think you can join us that's okay. We've been trying to focus on recent riffs… [more]

That's okay miss-lapin, the movie is a real challenge to get through.

It's exactly like they heard it was possible now to film in front of green screens and use digital sets, so they did that, but they only had the least skilled people possible do the backgrounds, we're talking literal sub-N64 modelling here.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Food Delivery Apps
So long as you tip well. I do late night Doordash sometimes, and you wouldn't believe the distances I've been asked to drive for like three dollars, and we still must buy our own fast. To make a go of this... well, it's not easy in any case, but you have to maintain discipline about which orders you accept. Doordash does not have drivers' backs in this regard, tips are the only way to make it work. Sometimes I see a case where someone tacked on a tip after an order was… [more]

(Argh, when I write comments quickly, I do it in part by saying what I want to say in my head, which sometimes results in me replacing words with other words that kind of sound like them. As a result in the comment above, I entered fast when I meant gas. It's bothersome I know.)

Star Trek: Lower Decks: Old Friends, New Planets
There was a poignant moment last season where the characters got actual quarters on the Cerritos, packed up their stuff, and left the hallway they had been quartered since the series began... and the camera lingered on the hall for a moment, as the lights dimmed. It was an indication that the characters were actually going somewhere in their lives. For Mariner, who has held herself back for a while, who knows how long she's been in that hallway?

MST Club is our weekly video watchalong of riffing and other material. We hold it Thursday nights at https://cytu.be/r/metafilter_mst3kclub, beginning at 7 PM US Eastern time (4 PM Pacific, currently 11 PM UK I think) with the main event happening at 9 PM Eastern!

Special Event: RiffTrax: Spy High
MST Club is what we call our weekly show of riffing material, held Thursday nights starting at 7 PM US Eastern Time (that's 4 PM Pacific), at https://cytu.be/r/metafilter_mst3kclub. The main event starts at 9 ET/6 PT.

Note that sometimes the riffs we should area bit 90s-edgy. Most of the time they're okay, but the older ones (maybe up to around 2015 or so?), once in a while, resorted to comedy that we'd look a little askance at today, especially regarding homophobia,… [more]

Special Event: The Mads Are Back: The Phantom at 10,000 Leagues
MST Club is our weekly riff-watching group! Come by https://cytu.be/r/metafilter_mst3kclub on Thursday nights if you want to watch with! Note: occasional objectionable content (e.g. transphobia) in older riffs occurs. We try to steer around it but it's not always possible, so please be advised. The seas seem likely to be clear tonight, though!

Yes, in our own riffing I couldn't get over the fact that the creator of the monster (not really the villain, although I certainly wouldn't call him noble) was a mad oceanographer, not really a branch of science one might think would be given to fits of insane creative horrifying genius. Which class is it in Oceanography School, I wondered, where one learns how to create fishpeople?

Also: our hero naturally hooks up with the mad doc's daughter during… [more]

Special Event: Rifftrax: Prisoners of the Lost Universe
MST Club shows Thursday nights, at https://cytu.be/r/metafilter_mst3kclub! If you want to watch cheesy movie with jokes, both from the screen and from the chat, come on by some time! We also show different things on Sunday and Tuesday nights!

Someone left the show because of a transphobic riff, and although I missed the joke, I can kind of understand? There is a history of these kinds of jokes in MST3K and related projects, even in some of the most beloved episodes and shorts.

I cannot defend those jokes. I note that the more recent riffs are more likely to steer clear of them. The Mads are quite good about it, but it took some time for Rifftrax to abandon that kind of humor. (This is one of the reasons I… [more]

The main story of week's episode has appeared on Youtube. If they showed the whole episode on Thursday I wouldn't mind the delay so much, but no, it's still only the main story.

Movie: Battlefield Earth
I have the Rifftrax for this movie, and have shown it at Christmas before. We're starting to do RT at MST Club, maybe we should consider this one in the near future. Battlefield Earth is a favorite bad movie for me.

Special Event: The Mads: Manos The Hands of Fate
MST Club continues its mission to horrify people in an entertaining way, with bad, and just plain weird movies, and people who mock them as they run. Our Thursday shows begin at 7 PM US Eastern time (with the main event happening at 9 PM), at https://cytu.be/r/metafilter_mst3kclub!

Ah, but tonight's episode will start a little late, I'm on the interim transition board and our meetings unfortunately take place on Thursday nights, gah.

Ah thanks. I'm aware of the infinite MST3K stream, but didn't know they were showing other things in it besides Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes.

It's nice that it's happening! When the Kickstarter for Season 14 failed a lot of fans were pretty depressed, it helps to fill that hole in all our hearts.

I think they were just the Loud Brigade, the whole reason they changed the big purple bot's name to GPC in the first place was due to fan requests. Always remember, because the great majority of fans and users never interact at all, it's not hard on the internet for a group to seem bigger than they are if they're just really verbose about it. MST3K's fanbase has always skewed left overall.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: The Supreme Court
Pretty bad, but I was worried that they were going to stop uploading them altogether. And this might actually help the main story achieve a little extra traction, delaying the shareable version until midway through the week, although it may also hurt blunt its initial impact. Note: the piece they did a couple of months ago on Elon Musk currently has 8.8 million views, and the video they did on the Israel/Gaza conflict also has over 8 million.

We're about to run out of stuff to show again, but for now we're still having shows Thursday nights at https://cytu.be/r/metafilter_mst3kclub, with the episode beginning at 9 PM US Eastern/6 PM Pacific! If you can make it for Eliminators it sounds ridiculous, and the MFT3000 people made some pretty funny episodes!

Phobos the Space Potato, I think I should make sure you understand, this is not an MST, a Mystery Science Theater, episode. It's a MFT, Mystery Fandom Theater, episode. (It's really not a NFT episode, whatever that would be it would be terrible.) That explains why you hadn't heard of it before, MFT is pretty obscure, and they only made five, and the fifth is entirely shorts.

As we try to decide where to take MST… [more]

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Elon Musk
A couple of weeks back, I complained in a comment in one of the recent Musk threads about Musk doing things because largely the government hadn't. Someone challenged me on the ways that happened, and I didn't have a list at hand so I went by immediate memory. Please substitute Last Week Tonight's list, ultimately from The New Yorker, for the one I provided.

He ends many, not all but many, seasons like that. It's not the biggest send-off he's done, that would probably be the dance party of all the mascots the show's staff has made.

I don't think they abandon them so much as are probably so pressed with new horrible things to talk about that they never get around to covering unused topics from previous seasons.
