The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Adar
Apparently Adar means "father" in Quenya. That's a choice I wouldn't have made, but I guess it's reminiscent of the orcs calling Saruman "Sharkey" and gives a little window into their orc brains. Even orcs have filial bonds.

If this was the Silmarillion, Arondir would be tortured by Sauron and then allowed to escape so he could go home and inadvertently betray his people.

Anyone want to speculate who (what) the Stranger is?… [more]

Okay, I can totally see him as a younger Gandalf. That makes so much sense.

if Halbrand is going to be anyone - eventually, he'll be the Witch King. Or at least one of the men with one of the nine rings, ie. the later Ring-Wraiths.

Ugh, I hope you’re wrong but I think you’re probably right. At this point I like him a whole lot more then Elendil. But I guess that’s what makes a tragic figure.

He does seem to have trouble controlling his temper.

They did not show it, but your guess makes sense. Prepare for Middle Earth-wide conflict.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Adrift
I like this more than I expected, and much more than the Peter Jackson movies. Why?

I've been reading and rereading the LOTR decade after decade since the 1970s. I went into the movie adaptions with great hope but ended up very disappointed. I hated the way the films focused on gruesome battles rather than moral quest. I hated all the unnecessary ways the movie changed the plot and characters.

But none of that has been a problem with the Rings… [more]

Oh, but put me down as not liking the portrayal of dwarves. Too much comic relief, too touchy feely, and the women don't have beards!

I was disappointed she didn't take out the water drake with her dagger. That would have shown some mean elf chops.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Spock Amok
There are so many great characters in this series, and this episode did a great job of giving us a little more insight into a whole bunch of them. Number One is where fun goes to die. Nurse Chapel has commitment issues but likes to have fun (with men and women). The doctor doesn't mind being a goofball; until he does. Chapel and Spock are connecting more and more. T'Pring looks like she'll be a somewhat semi-regular.

Plus, it was a relief to make it through an episode… [more]
