Everything is fine?

Every so often someone proposes we avoid discussion of unhappy outcomes in general but more specifically the unlikelihood of an impeachment in the Trump threads, which now appears to be becoming de facto policy. It seems like it's worth talking over before it does.

Freindship is Magic

Can we take the derail about whether its okay to say Americans or Danes have a collective identity out of the fun horsey thread and thrash it out here? Cheers.

Mobile only content

So this seems potentially problematic: Sorry, but the media gallery you are trying to load is not compatible with your device. Apple iOS (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad) or Android OS are required - how do we feel about that?

3000+ Comment Megaponies

So, even outside of election years browser crushing 3000+ post megathreads are now a not uncommon thing - should we be looking at pagination at the 2000 comment mark? And if not pagination what else could be done to make them less of a browser crushing experience, especially on mobile?

SLFPP

Sometimes a big block of text with multiple links is appropriate for a post, sometimes some short descriptive text and a link and sometimes really all that is required is a single link. However it seems that in recent Meta posts the later gets short shrift, so with that in mind: Single link posters of Mefi, keep up the good work!

My job is not to worry about those threads

The Sarah Palin thread has been surpassed. this is now Metafilter's longest thread. Happy Election Season everyone!

Facing the Auditors

Metafilter's own Charles Stross: Ask him anything (Previously on the blue, seems like it might be a better fit here)

Showtime

So, apparently the term "showrunner" is new to Metafilter and Metafilter is offended by that. Shall we discuss it over here?

Google buzz

Folks, you know where MeTa is. Leave the needling of other users out of this thread, please? - Well, this appears to be about me, judging by some of the disappeared comments, but would you mind explaining what aspect of the conversation is verboten?

Blackout

Reddit will be blacked out for 12 hours on January 18th in protest against SOPA. Will Metafilter be doing similar?

Stop click and listen

I seem to post a lot of FPPs that revolve around podcast or other audio content these days, and It's gotten me curious... how often do you stop and listen to the content in links of that kind? Is it more or less likely than the chances you would watch a video?

Weirdo alert! No, wait...

Welcome MeFi's own Jeff Vandermeer, who says he's just popping his head in on Scattercat's post on The Weird, but it would be lovely if we could entice him to stay.

The Oxford Handbook of Eye Movements

So the Amanda Knox thread has been pretty successfully trolled in the exact same way twice now, the first time apparently by a user operating under a secondary account. So, hey, are nerkul and fraac the same people? and could they knock it off?

A Reminder...

Hi, just a quick reminder that Doctor Who is now being shown on BBC America one week behind the UK, not same day as it was previously, and that though general Metafilter policy is pretty hands-off regarding spoilers it would be great if you could avoid posting any them in any open who Threads that are not directly about current episodes, as not everyone is torrenting it, cheers.

RTFA Day

In the light of this FPP I would like to propose that today be declared RTFA day, in order to promote awareness of Reading The Fucking Article before posting comments.

[Insert Weird Al version of Beat It here]

Could we not do the HOW DARE YOU BE INTERESTED IN THE SUBJECT OF THIS THREAD WHEN CHILDREN ARE STARVING WHEREVER IT IS THAT THEY ARE STARVING!!! thing, as per this thread? Cheers.

BOO! NEW MESSAGES!

"1 New Comment, Show" -Argh! What the hell? Metafilter is haunted! Or is that pop up message a new feature that's been there for a while? Actually a fairly nice feature, come to think of it.

Steal this Derail

There's a legal term for violating a copyright owner's exclusive rights: it's "infringement," not "theft." And to this day I have not heard a single justification for why not to use it. I'm done with this derail, but I look forward to having it again every time this subject comes up" - Well, me neither. How about we don't?

Me-TeaFilter not Metafilter

This post was sadly deleted before we could determine the correct solution to an age old conundrum - what is the best way for Mefites to make tea? Clearly such matters must be thrashed out in depth!

The Edge of reason

Update to this post on Tim Langdell, Mobigames and the Edge trademark: EA Victorious as Court Denies Injunction Against Publisher for 'Edge' Trademark The court has denied Edge Games’ motion for injunction, citing that it believes that Langdell made fraudulent statements to the US Patent and Trademark Office and strongly believes that Langdell is “suspect,” and has been “trolling” the game industry for licensing opportunities. His actions could possibly warrant “criminal penalties.”

Copyedit required

Could we get a copyedit on this G20 related FPP, per the numerous comments?

1956

While not disagreeing that it was esentially a stunt, I thought this post by orthogonality was rather good, with the lack of context, the reaction to the material out of context and discovery of that context being features rather than bugs.

On Threadshitting...

I just noticed that a few early comments of the "This will surely be deleted" kind have been deleted from threads. I just wanted to say to whatever mod responsible: Good on you. And please continue to exterminate them with extreme prejudice.

Stars not quite right yet

If anyone signed up for the Delta Green: Targets of Opportunity ransom as a result of this post you might be wondering where the book is. Here's an update. (Also if anyone was wondering about the fundable closure it shouldn't be affected by that)

TNH overflow

People apparently can't stop talking about TNH and Boing Boing! And here's a place to do it. Thank you.

Blazecock related iPad overflow

Blazecock Pileon's relentless browbeating of anyone who is not a cheerleader for Apple and general bad behaviour whenever Microsoft is mentioned in the iPad thread and others is becoming increasingly tiresome.

Crazy MIXed up meet up

Any Mefites going to MIX 10 or just hanging out in Las Vegas in March? How about meeting for drinks on either the 15th or the 16th somewhere in the area of Mandalay Bay?

Cyngr bs ornaf

Pony Request: So, it's been discussed before, but could we have some support for discussing spoilers in threads such as this one? Like maybe a tag for rendering text invisible until selection, or built in ROT 13 support or somesuch?

WAREZ

Copyright... we've all followed the various debates, and we know theres all kinds of morally ambiguity and grey areas and stuff involved. But where there isn’t much grey area at all are sites that are explicitly for the warezing of mass quantities of digital media. Could we not link to them or offer them our breathless support on the front page or use the site for the swapping of invites for them? Plenty of other places for that. Thanks.

See Astro Space Laboratory

I'd just like to take a moment to misuse MetaTalk and draw your attention to this lame gawker list type post revealing the origin of MetaFilters own Astro Zombie.

Popbitch

Did we really need to delete this FPP just because various defenders of MeFis indie street cred shat in this thread and presumably flagged it a lot? That's kind of a shame, because other people were enjoying it.

Ministry of Truth

Sadly not from the Onion, but actually from the Sunday Express, whose story appears to be an extreme misrepresentation of the truth, and various blogs who’ve taken that untruth further via internet Chinese whispers. Can we ditch this from the blue or at least add a note to the effect that it is in fact bollocks?

NY Comicon?

Any comics mefites going to the NY Comic Con? Odds are that I'm going to be able to make it this year - should we set up a meeting or at the minimum some identification procedures so we'll know if we run into each other?

MeFi International

Is MeFi getting less international? This is entirely based on subjective impressions but it seems like we’re seeing a lot less posts outside of regular US waking hours. Is this just something that happens every 4 years because of all the election posts?

bj%F6rked

I just noticed in the bitone post that the björk tag breaks, getting a 403 error (The bjork tag is fine). IIRC theres already some handling for special characters, possibly it should also replace accented characters?

I blame thread deletion

I'd like to ask for a reconsideration on this on teh grounds that, well, I was finding bits of the discussion interestign, and though I disagree with the premise of the post (as do a lot of people discussing it) deleting it seems pretty harsh.

Should we FPP the Obama speech?

Should we FPP the Obama speech? Some debate here. On the one hand it seems like it would be doomed to deletion as we have two open Obama related threads. On the other hand it's a really big deal, and (IMHO) rises above NewsFilter into Best Of The Web because it's such an incredibly good speech. Also those other threads are way below the fold. Thoughts?

Update on IE 8 standard support - IE will now render in standards mode by default, without any silly meta tag.
