How to cook without cooking.
I would get one of these "Pasta Boats" for now and the future. I have one and it does cook perfect pasta in the microwave. It also steams veggies.

Crtl+Z in life after making it weird
You laid out the terms under which you are willing to have a relationship with your sister. Some (all?) of the terms were in direct conflict with who your sister is such as the white lies. I assume she has terms under which she is willing to have a relationship with you. You told her you are not willing to accept her for who she is. She may hate your dad, but by her actions, she is willing to deal with him under her terms. I do not follow the logic that she hagtes dad but is willing to act… [more]

Slipped disc, effective treatment vs liver strain
I had my first of five back operations when I was 15 (Almost a half a century ago). I have had a fusion at L4/L5 and multiple levels of my cervical spine. I am in pain more than I am not. If taking 600mg of Ibuprofen 3x day was a problem even in the short term, my liver would be mush. I have taken that much ibuprofen a day for maybe 250 days a year for DECADES. I get blood work done often bc of multiple medical reasons. My liver function is one of my better organ functions.… [more]

Wire Stripper
Seems to me that the return policy of where you decide to buy the stripper is one of the top 3 critical issues. (Cost, return policy, does it work). You linked to Home Depot. It came up for me as on sale for $49.99. The return policy is 90 days for a full refund. If it were me, for $50, I would buy it, try it, and return it if it did not meet my expectations.

Famous places not really in places?
The Borough of Manhattan is NOT an island. It includes an area of North Broadway north of (the other side of) the river. Manhattann Island is an Island but makes up not 100% of the Borough of Manhattan. (Won many a bar bet with this little known fact about Marble Hill. If you know the area of the Broadway bridge that connects The Bronx with the island of Manhattan, there is a Target store and several other stores/mall that is the part of the mainland that is included in the Borough of… [more]

Can the foam ever forget?
I literally purchased the same wedge (for my back -- keep my legs elevated) 4 weeks ago from AMZN. Luckily, I had a different older wedge I was replacing so I was able to let it go for a while while I had the benefit of the old wedge. I found that I would massage the new one once a day and the way it sat (as pictured was the best) made a difference to how much progress was made. It did take about a week for it to expand to about 97%.

The one I was replacing was… [more]

MA Lawyer Needed for Albatross Removal
I am not a lawyer. I have claimed assets of family members that were escheated to NY State. I think one helpful way to look at your probability of success is to look at the mirror image. What if the stock the state sold went down in value thus saving you money? Would you be concerned about the way the stock was treated. Doubtful. Highly doubtful.

When the state took possession of the stock, they became fiduciaries (not sure if this is a legal term) of that asset.… [more]

Summer hat recommendation?
A lot of golf baseball style hats (I have a Nike one) fit the bill. Nylon with mesh. I also dip it in water which keeps it cool for a little while longer.

Mission also makes hats for the heat. Oh, a lot of fishing hats will work. They tend to have a longer bill than a standard baseball hat.

best Grateful Dead shows?
Where to begin? I would say pretty much any soundboard from the Spring 1977 tour. Many say Cornell, Barton Hall is the best show sound wise and set list wise, but I am partial to the Boston show a few days before.

I personally love the tapes from the Europe '72 tour that was used to make the Europe' 72 album. 1974 also has some great music. I've also been partial to shows that I attended (about 150 pre Jerry's death.).

I would also start with… [more]

Track little league stats
This is going to come down to a lot of interpretation. In t-ball, if he hits the ball and it goes past the 2nd baseman and into right field and the right fielder misplays it but then throws it to the shortstop who bobbles it all while your son is running around the bases, is that a single and a three base error or a "little league homerun"? Are you going to account for errors? If he hits it softly back to the person playing the pitcher's position who then throws it into the ground… [more]

Seeking advice on upcoming meeting with financial advisor
It is equally insane to blindly follow this Financial Advisor's advice as it is to follow people on the internet with their own biases advice.

What I suggest is to say to him that you are still learning and trying to figure out what the best course of action is. You are not comfortable making a decision about a load fund without learning much more about it and about investing in general. To that end, you want to put the money in a no load fund, perhaps the Vanguard… [more]

How to throw a baseball (fielding, not pitching)
I think this is very individualistic. Each kid learns how they learn and you know the little penguin best and should focus on his learning style. Next, know that some kids never really improve enough or in time to keep up with their age group. Some kids will always out play their age group. My two sons, one a lefty and one a righty had rifles for arms. They both lost interest in baseball as too slow. (Baseball is my favorite sport). One, became the starting QB on his HS team, his arm was… [more]

Biting the inside of my mouth?
This bites. (Sorry)

I bite my cheeks on occasion, bite my tongue when napping to the point of pain, have sleep apnea, and often wake up from dry mouth.

I don't have a great solution. I do wear a cpap and that helps the biting. I also rinse with a solution from OralB for dry mouth. I can't say it eliminates the problem, but it is better than nothing as they say.

How do you keep plastic tubs from flipping over in the dishwasher?
If they don't get clean because of their movement and you have to rinse and wash them afterwards, why not just wash them by hand initially?

I gave up on putting my reusable plastics in the dishwasher because of just the problem you describe and the heat tends to warp them, and some vague notion I have of plastics leaching into other things in the washer. I am also able to run the washer less frequently because of it.

How to *think*
For me, it is walking, driving and in the shower. I recently had a 14 hour drive that I was planning on it being 2 days, but it was so productive in terms of my mind and thinking that I just kept going. Policies for claiming DNS entry from a vanished owner
Won't the registrar tell you what you need to do to prove your ownership or authority over the account? If they have their own standards and protocols, they are the only one's who can answer it and if they are using industry standards, they too can and should tell you.

I suggested asking the registrar themselves because I think this is going to take time. No matter how prepared you are for the conversation with the registrar, you are going to have to jump through hoops. I would look at it as at least two calls with the registrar. One, to figure out what they need from you, then the next to negotiate if what you have or can gather is enough.

How was the initial registration paid? Was it on an organization credit card or check or was… [more]

Is auctioning a house the smart way to go?
It has been my experience when auctioning a classic car, that the buyer pays a buyer's premium or fee to the auction house, not me the seller. If it is decided to go the auction route, that should, of course, be clarified. AzraelBrown is correct in their analysis that a buyer's premium will likely reduce the auction price paid. A sophisticated buyer will look at the winning bid price plus the buyer's premium as the net sale price. Who the net sales price goes to or how it is split up between… [more]

Looking for filler photo from 1999 New York Times
I am sure you have done this, but just in case, have you asked your teenage friends who are also in the picture if they remember when it ran in the paper. Even a month or "early April" will help.

Seems to me we have eliminated July and August if you were in school when the picture was taken. Doesn't sound like there was snow on the ground. So, the picture is likely from September to November and March to May. Maybe June.
