What made me ill in my meal-prep?
I think the proper play here is to eat another one and see what happens. It is the best way to rule them out as the cause.

This rug smells like feet
If the mat is white, I would wash it with some bleach in addition to the usual detergent. If that does not work either, based on all you have tried, I think the next move is to ask the next question, "I have this wonderful bath mat that I love, but it got ruined. Where can I get another one just like it at a reasonable cost?"

Coming to terms with confidentiality clause after bad experience
Are you upset that you are taking the money to keep quiet or that you cannot tell anyone about your terrible experience?

There are tradeoffs in life. Presumably, you are doing what you think is best for you. If you were more concerned about others going to work there, you would not agree to this settlement. I think the best way to get over it is similar to a breakup with a gf/bf/friend, etc. No contact. Think of it as them inadvertently helping you by forcing you to… [more]

I support calling everyone by their preferred name, not a nickname unless that nick is their preferred name such as "Jack" for John F. Kennedy.

How can you replace the shady administrator of a trust?
If the trust was supposed to be fully available to the beneficiaries at 30 and your friend is now 35 (over 30), she should ask again and if still denied hire a lawyer. It does not matter what her use of funds is for, she is entitled to her share of the trust.

I would add that if it were me, I would ask for 100% of my share and take any extra funds not going to the house and hire my own financial advisor after putting it all in my name.

How long do you keep text messages?
I have never deleted a text that was not spam. I have not even deleted the 2F codes I am sent. I also have never deleted an email I sent or received to all of my email addresses. I still have work .pst files from the 90s. I pay for extra storage for my Google account. I do archive texts and do archive my emails whatever that means with a GMail account.

Having said that, I do not think I would pull out a 15 yo text to prove a point.

I will add that I have every voicemail ever left me. Like emelenjr above this is particularly important to me because I have voicemails from my mother and father. They are the only recordings I have of them. My mom would leave voicemails for my kids when they were young on my phone. I have given them all copies of some of them. (I use Google Voice since before it was GV when it was Grand Central.)

Should I get a new device to cope with paperless meetings?
I don't think the issue is with your eyesight. I am with brookeb. The issue is not having standards for font size. I would suggest standards for accessibility and take hand written notes that refer to the page number until they agree.

Justice League
Old white guy and Yankees fan (which is worse?) and I love baseball statistics. Read the boxscores daily. Watch games with live mlb statcast stats. Spin rates, bat speed, etc

Not only is there nothing wrong with this, it is great and long over due. If you get a chance, the Negro League Hall of Fame is in Kansas City. Go. Well worth it!

I know your driving instructor has said you are not safe. Do you think or do you recognize not being safe without his comments?

When did lightning become such a thing?
Born in the early 60s. I do not recall ever having a sporting event in which I participated being stopped for lightening. The one time I recall an event being stopped was an event at my HS that was mostly people sitting on metal stands. It was a marching band thing.

Sperm bank for trans MTF youth...exeriences or advice to share?
If she is old enough and mature enough to decide to take hormones, she is old enough and mature enough to decide this issue. She seems like she did decide it. If she wants children later on, she will find another way. If you decide to bank the sperm, you are sending a signal that you may think her decision is a mistake.

I don't think the easy decision is just bank it. That is a financial decision that seems to ignore the mental aspects of it.

How to talk to our niece about her request to live with us?
I would talk with her. Saying no dues not mean you don't love her just like her mom considering letting her live with you away from her does not mean her mom does not love her. It is way more complicated than that.

To me, it is not about the space or anything to do with you. It is about what is best for niece's family and that is with her mother.

BTW, the other fallacy is that living with you two full time will not be anything like the weekend visits, etc.

Frankenstein's grocery cart: retrofit my transformer hand truck
I use Ikea bags to carry large amounts of groceries from car to door. You could easily attach it as per suggestions above. Or a hockey equipment bag (hat tip to Lyn Never). They are huge.

Quite frankly, similar to farmers wanting to have boys to help on the farm, this was what my teenage kids were for. "If you want dinner tonight or this week, please bring in the groceries from the back of the car."

How to stop my kindle from falling out of bed
Similar to what redstart suggested above, get an anti-fatigue mat. It won't make a crashing sound. Maybe a thud. Added benefit is that is will protect the kindle too.

I think the holders are good ideas too.

Quite frankly, I would solve the problem by switching to audio books and either headphones of ear buds.

Fitting a fridge
With my fridge, we cut out the bottom of the shelving above the fridge but left the cabinet doors there. We lost the use of that storage space, but got a lot of ventilation. We also had our cabinet guy who was really a furniture maker by trade, create ventilation slits in the sides so that there would be some airflow. It looked good and worked really well.

Should we name our son Camille?
Camille is a female name to me here in New York. We named our third child an unusual name. He turned out to be a big strong willed kid. Kids sort of backed off picking on him, but some of his teachers asked some 'unusual' questions about his name. It was adults more than kids.

Naming a boy Camille sort of reminds me of A Boy Named Sue by Johnny Cash

A ton of electronic waste and some taxidermy.
It sounds like your aunt lives out in the country so to speak. Did she have any neighbors? Things like the ATV and some of the other things that help when you live on a larger property might be things the neighbor will appreciate and take off your hands.

As for the rest, I would try to find a service to do it all, sell, donate, and trash.

NYC esoteric parking rules

Getting a curb cut in NYC is not easy. It takes persistence and time. My guess is that the homeowner got it finally as part of the deal to give one to the new building next door. I also think the value in a curb cut is an asset. It will increase the resale value of their home. Maybe the reason the gate is welded shut and there are other obstacles to pulling in is because they did not yet have the curb cut. Maybe they plan on using the driveway in the future. Maybe when they sell the new… [more]

"It's 25 years old, and despite some infighting, losing members, and the same old interface as 1999, MetaFilter soldiers on as an internet community, a community as the internet was first envisioned. When the rest of the internet has been reduced to how much advertising can we sell, MetaFilter is mostly a community of volunteers. A community of people working together, who do not always agree, to create a space where people can be heard."

I am not a lawyer. I have claimed assets of family members that were escheated to NY State. I think one helpful way to look at your probability of success is to look at the mirror image.
