Blaseball Season 12: The Return
Ah! Future posts can just be on the front page of FanFare, fwiw, so they're more visible, as a "Special Event" thread; that's how I was doing it last year before the Grand Siesta.

Is there anything more Blaseball than that, though

Maybe I'll make a midseason catchup post tomorrow.

Welcome to the hole!

I was thinking that same thing, CrystalDave: a post for every 3-season on period between the hiatuses (hiatii?) feels like maybe a better fit for the pace of conversation at this point.

Blaseball on FanFare
I think doing weekly Season-long special event posts would be a grand idea!

Done! Maybe a new post every Monday morning?

2019 Tony Awards live thread?
Sure! I've gone ahead and tossed together a basic Special Event post for it just now, here; happy to fill that out with some additional text or framing as appropriate.

MyFanfare - Only TV Shows?
TV shows and podcasts are the two media formats we have that are explicitly episodic: that there will by definition be more entries under that specific organizing title is baked into the medium format. And, importantly, the metadata available for those things from third party service providers we depend on is organized around that ongoing-series concept, so it's easy for folks to organize a set of TV episodes under a show, or a set of podcast episodes under a podcast.… [more]

Oh! Yes, so that's the main workaround: Club posts will show up in My FanFare automatically. Folks specifically sufficiently dedicated to a given book series or movie series can start up a club just for that that and subscribe accordingly, and new posts will show up as club members make them.

Note that that bit is entirely human powered; there's no metadata driving it automatically, it's just that someone or someones chose to (a) start a club and (b) make posts that… [more]

Ah, geez, I over-interpreted your question to begin with, apparently! Consider my beans plated.

Proposed formatting change: [Movie Title] (Year)
I will take it under consideration!

Bong Joon-ho's OKJA
[Removed a couple comment per a bit of discussion about avoiding explicit describing elements of violence in the show, carry on.]

Discussing titles of forthcoming episodes?
This tab has been open in my browser for a while because boy howdy something must have distracted me, but:

1. Talking about it in MeTa would be totally fine, yeah, and
2. As a general solution having a dedicated Talk thread for spoilery stuff that clearly disclaims that in the title and above the fold while (obviously) keeping any such spoiler content out of the post text itself seems okay with me.

Dark Tower Reread/Discussion?
Books are still hobbling their way out of development but I would be absolutely happy to give someone books-posting permissions if they want to do a Dark Tower reread book club thing, yeah.

No, it's a weird thing, no worries for being surprised. We haven't thrown the doors wide on generalized book posting because we're still working out some details, but I have a few folks access to the "book" option on the posting form so they could help us start experimenting with book club stuff. So this'd be another great candidate on that front, and I'm happy to flip that switch for whoever wants to tackle it.

And yeah, probably the best form for this would… [more]

And through the magic of tagging, I have made this post a Club post retroactively! Anything with "darktower_club" as a tag will show up as a post on the main Club page.

I've gone ahead and gotten book-posting permissions set up for Dormant Gorilla for when actual discussion posts are gonna go up, and as a reading schedule (however partial/tentative) gets set up, DG or any other member of the club can add a little event to the club calendar to signpost it.… [more]

That's the case at the moment, but I don't mind hooking other folks up as well if it's easier logistically than sticking all the thread-starting on you. Remains experimental, so I'm okay with experimenting!

My suggestion, if I get to be lazy, is that DG just be the point person for making the book posts for now for Dark Tower Club, and folks can collaborate on the text of those or not however they see fit, and we'll see how that goes and go from there! In a pinch, a clusterfuck can always be resolved by just poking me or any other mod, so let's not worry too much up front.

Yeah, I'd say The Gunslinger is (a) a well-known enough read and (b) short enough for a quick catchup that kicking that book off right away to get things rolling seems like a solid move. Get people into having fun discussing the book instead of just discussing the possibility of discussing it, and y'all can figure out future book schedule stuff as we go.

Trial book?
Yeah, to follow up: we're actively getting some of the last bits of plumbing in place for some manner of at-long-last test rollout for Books. pb's been trying to nail down the last bits of the basic infrastructure and is pretty close now, and I'm gonna check in with a couple users I've talked to previously about some book/club ideas previously.

With a little luck we'll announce something in MetaTalk later this week, maybe early next week if there's unexpected hitches.

Passive Detection of Critical Masses of Interest?
I wanted to pop in here to say this is at least related to what we're aiming for with the Watercooler feature we just rolled out; that's looking primarily at commenting activity over time at the moment rather than e.g. My FanFare numbers, but it's something where we're going to keep looking at the metrics and thresholds we're using to try and get a decent first pass sense of what's zeitgeisting on any given week.

Books and/or games?
What pb said; Books is definitely next on our list but we don't want to eff it up, and I'm enthusiastic about getting to games eventually but for sure Mefightclub is a great option for game discussion stuff already if you're interested (and I know for a fact they've got a Her Story thread there because I keep not reading it because I haven't played yet and it's always right up at the top every day).

Music we don't have any specific plan for at the moment, though I dig… [more]

FanFare threads are starting to close
Yeah, pb traveling means any technical end of it is still sort of a floating thing. That said, I don't see why we shouldn't plan to tweak it so they stay open indefinitely, and I'm guessing that will be a pretty trivial change, so I'm comfortable just sort of intimating that that's the way it'll go.

Which does kind of raise the question of how people will know when there's new conversations going on in old threads.

RA is, as noted already, the obvious answer for threads you've participated in recently. We might look long term at other discoverability avenues if long-dormant threads develop a flurry of new activity, but at the moment that'd pretty far down the list of priorities for FanFare development.

FanFare Twitter Account?
We can think about creating an analogous fanfare mefi account; the existing ones for other subsites exist essentially as feed duplicators, so it's not something that would really involve a human at the tiller in any case.

Also, no biggie and it's totally fine to sort of chat about ideas here, but for stuff that's functionally a Metafilter feature request/suggestion it's gonna be more reliable for mods and more visible for users in general to broach this sort of thing on Metatalk.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Rewatch?
I'd be interested in yammering about them whether or not I actually sit down and watch any given episode for the nth time, and am happy to thumbs up anything that will encourage more people to actually sit down and watch DS9 for realsies.

One big sticking point: are spoilers allowed?

I could see going either way on this, but my personal feeling is that the show is in general more interesting looked at in context as a whole (and… [more]

Is there a way to do those posts that just show up as a single line on the main Fanfare page (like how OITNB's full S2 was posted) for certain episodes?

Not with the current setup under the hood, no, though it's an interesting idea to think about for future stuff.
