I love movies that take the time to craft a world in which all of the characters have fully realized lives and it’s clear that the exist both before and after they intersect with the protagonist’s story. As silly as it might sound in comparison,… [more]

In response to “where are all the small cars?”, I mean, Japan, and it’s pretty awesome. I’m hopeful our current car is the last ICE we’ll ever own, though I’ve dialed back my irrational exuberance over the idea of automated cars on hire that would… [more]

The genius, yeah, that timeline kind of fits with what I remember. I got here in 2000, and remember the thing about the guy freaking out, and wouldn't be surprised if that ended up being the reason they closed the loophole. Now, mushrooms are on the… [more]

Great post. It’s one of the absolutely confounding things here, how very Nancy Reaganish this country is when it comes to drugs. My personal bugbear is that reports of drug arrests in the news almost always stop at “dangerous drugs” rather than… [more]

I loved the game for the beauty of it. The design, the time taken to make it so visually appealing, yet clearly unified. That, when I opened the box for the PS4 disc, it came with an art book of the characters instead of an instruction booklet… [more]

I was all full of hope, but then I spent most of the month writing comments on student essays, burnout, then depression, then needing to finish checking those drafts to give back to the students so they could finish their final drafts. I managed a grand total of zero words on any of the things I meant to write, and a lot of time staring at walls. This week and next are for grades. School will finish on the 13th, and we have an absurdly long break. I'm going to aim for DoDeWriMo, and see what I can manage to get done. Thanks again for posting this, I wish I could have participated more. [more]

November is one of my busiest months at school, four grades worth of term papers to edit, return, and mark again, but I've also been sitting on several different story ideas for the better part of the last two years. I've got a definite "if I don't get this started now, I never will" sort of feeling, and a need to start building the habit of writing. I'm not sure how far I'll get with this, but I'd like to break ground on, and hopefully finish a couple of the short stories I've got bouncing around in my head. Thanks for this. [more]
