Miralax? PEG / Polyethelene glycol? The chemical itself absorbs water and turns into a gel. In mass quantities it's used for colonoscopy prep. In small doses it's a stool softener. I gave small doses it to our dearly departed Vash because he was having really hard poops, and it helped a lot. But if your poops are really loose I guess could gather up excess fluid and make things a little firmer. I think it's worth a shot.

Missed the edit window, but another better source with lots of interviews with people who were there describe it as more of a public dance party, at least before the cops moved in.

hi hippybear, no, Mardi Gras started (as a political demo) in Sydney in June 1978 in solidarity and response to a call from the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Committee to commemorate Stonewall. It was an annual public extravaganza by the time Priscilla came out in 1994. But that was Sydney, and things were very different across Australia (e.g. homosexuality was illegal in the state of Tasmania until 1997).

So, tee-totalin’ lil ol me went and did something completely out of character. I went and… got some gummies. They’re 10mg and I’ve been cutting em into quarters so I’m only getting 2.5mg. I’m not looking to get high - addictions run in my family - but I have not been sleeping well for years now. And so far these are working really well. I’m getting some decent sleep on the nights I’m taking them. The way I described it to my wife is that its not so much that it makes you feel sleepy, its that it... [more]

My medical issues are resolved. Cataract surgery is a life changer. 9mm kidney stone laser blasted and removed. I asked if I would be awake and the surgeon chuckled and said you do not want to be awake as I remove the bits and pieces of the stone through your penis. Over COVID now, despite being fully vaccinated. It was the worse. Went from 225 lbs to 175 lbs in two months. I'm putting the pounds back on by way of baby blue cheese on Italian bread. Oh, had stent removed from the kidney stone... [more]

MeFi post: The Spectacular Failure of the Star Wars Hotel
Yeah I feel like the 'actually I had a great time' crowd are missing the point?

Where she really brings it home is the YOU'VE BEEN ROBBED section at end - this is Disney overselling something they at best could not deliver and more likely never intended to, getting away with an incredibly inflated price tag because of fan's enthusiasm and trust in Disney, while taking economic advantage of actors and staff (and I'm sure designers, builders etc) that go above and... The thing that I really came away with, it that it was possible to have a magical time, but very easy to fall through the cracks. And that at that price point you really can't justify folks falling through the cracks like that. It sounds like both the app was borked, but also that some folks didn't get any on-ramps. I love what the ideal sounds like, but do get that folks who didn't get it felt underwhelmed.

This is a point that some people who are... [more]

Just as an FYI/PSA, the "egg" language is solidly in the "language cis people shouldn't use" category. It's quite arguably inappropriate to use about anyone but oneself and some people find the whole egg discourse problematic.

I hear you kittens for breakfast, I too bounced off of Sinfest back in the day, it was a little too sarcastic and nihilistic, even when it was supposedly good. I didn't get into Goats either for that reason.

I don't intend to keep leaving these remembrance stones for oneswellfoop in every webcomic thread, but he would be here writing full-page comments on the history of the medium were he still around. I don't know if I'll ever stop missing him.

Today I love free because we are getting a free roof (sans deductible).

Our roof was pretty old and, after a recent hailstorm, started leaking. We kind of figured the insurance company would just say too bad, an old roof will do that but we had them come out anyway. We set most of the money aside from an unusually good month (we are in sales, things vary) as a start on a fund for a repalcement roof, figuring the cost would fall to us. We just found... [more]

I see that we have passed into the portion of the Metafilter immersive experience where people who have watched a four hour video of one person’s trip to the Starcruiser now know more about it than three people who spent three days there each.

This was a Bell 212 Helicopter sold to Irans Air Force during the Shah back in the 1970s. It was the classic Huey seen in every Vietnam war film. New ones haven’t been manufactured since the late 1990s but they are very common and used all around the world I suspect parts are easy to get. They have bought the Russian made MI-17 as a replacement. If there was any kind of maintenance or spare parts issue they would just stop flying VIP’s in the Bell 212’s.

If you haven't read the lyrics analysis that hippybear referenced in the Genius Lyrics link, please consider it. The lyrics are incredibly dense with wordplay and slang I at least wasn't aware of, and the interplay between the dark lyrics, the upbeat music/dancing, and what's happening cinematically/narratively is really something. This whole thing is breathtakingly layered

Lol, not a bot, just a real live aging woman. Possibly it's so predictable because it's...so true. Possibly so annoyingly frequent because women are, you know, saying it.

The intersection of capitalism, Americanism, aging, and womanhood is brutal.

I was hired to teach today! It’s only part time though. It makes me want to never get paid again to write code because that's nothing in comparison with someone paying me to violin. My students are great, they’re sharp and funny and I’m so thrilled to get to do this. I am teaching a class with only two students in it, which is kind of funny. It’s great for the students, but it’s better for the school if that number isn’t so low, of course.

This guy doesn't seem to be that familiar with the style he's supposedly mimicking. The music he picks (1940s-ish big band) is about 10 years outdated for the mid 50s era he's shooting for, the narration is far too matter-of-fact, and he calls these "Super Panavision 70" — a film format whose main feature was that it was very wide (2.20:1 instead of the 16:9 he made these at).
